EMX / Kaoss Pad 3 MIDI question re Behringer pedal

I'm trying to link up my EMX-1 and KP3 via MIDI so I can control both of them via my Behringer FCB 1010 footpedal. Previously I've only controlled the EMX with the FCB.

The problem: MIDI messages the FCB sends don't seem to be reaching my EMX now. I used to be able to change EMX patterns with the FCB, but now when I hit the FCB, nothing happens.

Things I've checked already:

I've got my MIDI cables running through the KP3 first, then on to the EMX, i.e. FCB out to KP3 in, KP3 out to EMX in.

Both EMX and KP3 are set to MIDI channel 1, and the KP3 is now the master clock.

The EMX MIDI filter is set to receive all parameters (i.e., PCEN is set to "OOOO", on the EMX manual page 80)

The KP3 MIDI filter is set so that all parameters are enabled (Gl. Ch., Prog, CC, SysEx)

Am I missing something here? I've got pretty limited knowledge of MIDI. I'm assuming the KP3 will simply pass along the messages to the EMX, but evidently I'm wrong.

(FYI, yes, it would be easy to go back to putting the EMX before the KP3 in the chain...but as many people on this forum have noticed, the EMX and KP3 samples go out of sync pretty quickly unless the KP is the master clock...I'm trying to redo my setup to work around that issue.)
