Oasys Recording Challenge ..."You Can't Undo This"

Hi All...

I've been recording a song and all of a sudden in the midi track that I'm recording (working in the auto-punch mode) when I finished my take in the specified range I got the pop-up message asking if I was sure I wanted to do that because it couldn't be undone...

Does anyone know why that is happening? ...And, how I can normalize this? ...Thanks, much ...I really appreciate any assistance that you can provide.

IIRC there is an explanation of that warning in the Appendix of the Param Guide.

iirc, it refers to low available memory. In other words, for undo to work, there needs to be a certain amount of memory available to hold the old version and the new version simultaneously. When memory is short...

Here is the text I was thinking of :

You can’t undo this operation - Are you sure?

Meaning: Once you enter event editing (even if you
leave event editing without actually editing an event),
it will no longer be possible to execute a Compare of
the previous edit. If you wish to enter event editing,
press the OK button. To cancel, press the Cancel
button.

You can’t undo last operation - Are you sure?

Meaning: When you exit recording or event editing in
Sequencer mode, the memory area for Undo (Compare
function) is not allocated. If you wish to keep the data
that was just recorded or edited, press the OK button.
If you wish to return to the previous data (i.e., to delete
the data that was just recorded or edited), press the
Cancel button.

Meaning: When editing in Sequencer mode, memory
area for Undo (Compare function) cannot be allocated.
If you wish to execute the edit, press the OK button. (It
will not be possible to return to the state before
editing.) If you decide not to execute the edit, press the
Cancel button.

In order to allocate memory area for Undo
(Compare function), delete unneeded data such as
songs, tracks, or patterns. We recommend that you
save data to media before you execute the edit
operation.

Charlie,

Don't feel like the lone ranger, American English is my only language, and I'm hoping for enlightenment as well. I think too many people are getting this zest for "texting" shortcuts where ever they can use them.

What's the point of saving a few strokes on a full size computer keyboard if your message is not understood by the recipients? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but I thought the primary purpose of this forum was to communicate with one another.

LOL ... you know dropping in Internet Chat shortcuts accidentally is as easy as making reference to fictional figures that might be well known to Americans but not to others

I could be wrong as you didn't use capital letters, so you were possibly using "lone ranger" more generally and without referring to the great man himself. Even so it probably doesn't translate terrifically well as a simile. I hope you see the humour and also the point being illustrated; namely how easy it is to slip into your own vernacular even when trying to write for an international audience.

Anyway, do please forgive my previous concision.

Looking at this from another point of view, I am always surprised and gratified to see how well so many Europeans write in English. More often than not writing in the language more capably and more accurately than many native English speakers do. Myself included. I've witnessed many a German or Italian who has a better grasp of the use of the apostrophe in our language than we do

Whilst we are speaking of the decline of the language why isn't anyone complaining about "You can't...". It is rather informal

The acronyms I commonly read and have "absorbed" are these :

FWIW : for what it's worth
IIRC : if I remember correctly
IMO : in my opinion
IMHO : in my humble opinion
LOL : laugh out loud

I've never used or seen them in an SMS text message, this is something quite different I thought from "c u l8r" and other such foreshortening that is common and convenient when texting.

Funnily enough, RTFM is something I've never used in 10,000+ posts here 'cos I don't like the vibe of that. I've read it plenty of times though.

On another forum I used to frequent one of the moderators often used the phrase "Learn your craft", I rather like that as an alternative and it is sage advise too.
