[VIDEO] Jordan Rudess and Jack Hotop NAMM09 (Korg footage)

Post by zolhof »

Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater plays an OASYS 88, along with Jack Hotop (Korg's senior voicing manager) on an M3 (with RADIAS synthesizer module) and the new M50-88. Not only does Jordan give us a master class on how he uses the OASYS with Dream Theater, this is also the FIRST TIME he showed his 3d video accompaniment system! (c) Korg USA, Inc. "

It's always amazing to see how Rudess uses the joystick etc.
What is this "bendowling.com" doing on his Oasys?
And what's that 3D wizard good for? Just show?

Charlie,

Ben Dowling is an LA based keyboardist that has done a lot of work for Korg and If I'm not mistaken has previously worked directly for Korg (or may still).

I'm sure it was a lot more convenient for them to borrow Ben's Oasys than to ask JR to bring his own.

Ken is partially right... Ben is one of our long-time developers/voicing artists, and a great musician.

But we borrowed his OASYS at the last minute after a small "booth accident" - forcing Jordan to deal with a 76 rather than his usual 88. He handled the change admirably, considering how he had to adjust to some more limited key ranges on his custom Combi setups.

regards,

Jerry

hi Jerry, what small accident was that? I´m curious now :P

and after seeing Jordan rocking on a nanoKEY, I´m pretty sure that he can play anything with a couple of white and black keys

That explains alot, I was wondering why Rudess had the 76 on the show :!:
Extraordinary, many would not have played under the circumstances. But I agree that Rudess can play anything if it has at least couple of black and white keys. :D

Wasn't there a demo song by Ben - somehow reladted to Zawinul? I'm pretty sure I remember Ben doing a demo song last year for Korg, right? :?:

Ben also wrote the internal OASYS audio+MIDI demo "Love Embraces All", and wrote the TRITON Le-88 demo and more, just in recent times.

He has worked on Korg synths since the mid-80's and still to this day. great guy and great musician as well!

Regards,

Jerry
