Mixing Advice Needed ...Plus an odd isssue...

Post by awatu »

Hi All...

I'm pretty new to the Oasys ...But, it seems that the way you commit to volume changes and panning in the mix is via the overdub mode ...A couple of questions:

A.) If I want to change my work, how do I accomplish that? ...Is it through event edit mode? ...Or, is there some other way to accomplish this?

B.) Is it the same for the audio tracks? ...I only ask because in my Trinity there was an audio mix selection in the tracks.

I, also, have an odd problem that I'm thinking is a technical inequity that I'm going to have to have fixed ...That said, when I'm in Audio Recording the "Auto-Punch" doesn't work as it ought to ...Meaning, it will auto-punch in as specified ...However, it keeps recording past the measure I've specified ...Now, the odd thing is that the Auto-Punch functions normally when I'm recording Midi-Tracks ...Anyways, any thoughts?

Hey, thanks everyone ...This forum has been a God-send and an invaluable resource ...I really appreciate any, and all, nuggets of advice and info that I receive from all ...Thanks, again.

Greetings & Well Wishes,
Steve. :?

I prefer recording all mixing automation events into a separate midi-track. Just arm a separate midi track and record all the fader movements etc. 8)

Hi Charlie...

Thanks for your response ...Though, I'm not quite sure what you mean ...Are you saying I can arm any one of the Midi Tracks, choose multi-track, and then I can overwrite my fader and panning movements in all 16 midi-tracks? ...Thanks, again.

Sorry for causing any confusion. What I meant to say was, that I do not record track-automation into the track being automated but into a separate track. You can record any automation into any midi-track. Usually I devote one of the 16 midi-tracks to this task.

Let's say I have 10 midi-tracks on 1-10 and I need volume-automation for track 3,5,7,8 and 10. I would arm track 16 as my devoted automation track and record all the fader-movements into track 16. I can edit them there too. But usually I just record it the automation there until I've got it right. That's more comfortable than editing long lists of data.

I believe there's a video on Mike Conway's "Unofficial Oasys" DVD explaining this as well. He's one of the experts for the sequencer here and I've learnt this trick from him.

Excellent! ...Thanks, for the clarification, Charlie ...And, thanks, also, for the heads-up on Mike ...I just ordered the "Unofficial Oasys" DVD from Mike.
