Ha ha, I still have that "Ramirez" program. I knew just what it would sound like. Peter, you are correct - I was loading TX16W French Horn samples into the SY99 and modulating them.

Agreed, that is a cool track!

Admittedly, I have not delved as much as I want into MOD-7, because of my long lasting EXILE project. I do plan on digging in and including some programming demos on the next DVD.

Honestly, Billy....I have thought about programming and releasing a bank of MOD-7 sounds, utilizing more internal samples, doing the distortion modulation (RCM) process that Kevin likes. The OASYS can do those sounds and more. I would love it. It's just, like with all things - I have little time, at least right now.

With most of the EXILE songs, I have used MOD-7 for the bulk of the synth work. You will easily hear the impact on the compositions. I think some of Korg's programs are fantastic and really fit the kind of mix I created.

One thing to remember about SY/TG programming, is that HD-1 type and FM programs could freely mix. By that, I mean 4 stand alone programs could exist in a single 4 element patch. You could layer a piano program, a string section program and 2 FM elements (two 6 op synth programs) in a single program. Because of that kind of setup, a lot of those programs are stacks, where to do the same thing on the OASYS, requires using a Combi - but no MOD-7 Combis (that I know of) were made.

Of course, sample waves can be brought into MOD-7's PCM oscillator, but I'm referring to mixing finished programs.

Thanks Kevin for posting the MP3s. Your excellent playing and style of music is not being discussed here so dont worry about mistakes, I actually love baroque and spanish music 8)

Re: Remirez, the 3rd piece in this collection sounded convincing, the guitar strumming and key responses you talk about are definately there!

Re: Fr.Horn, I'm not sure i am convinced, although it is quite good.

Re: Khafre, as Peter summed up, very nice.

Mike,
we all realise your a busy guy and i'm sure you could come up with some amazing RCM type sounds on the O using HD and Mod7. Good luck with Exile.

When MOD 7 was released over a year ago I actually video taped myself playing all 128 programs that came with it - just doing improvisations and playing around with the control surface and a bit of Karma especially on the bass programs. I put the video on two dvd's, just listening to it tonight those programs are just awesome and its easy to see why these sounds could be used in a SciFi flick as Mike has done.

I agree with Kevin, Mod 7 has not been scratched. We have heard nothing yet.

I'm not sure anyones got time to explore the Mod-7, certainly not me, at the moment.

I bought a TG77 for 125 euro's: this synth is still great in many ways and cheaper than Mod7. For learning RCM with all the sounds already available, this is a real bargain in programming the Mod7 in a later stage...
