Well guys...Yes as I said in a previous post. I have sold my Oasys and you know what I am not missing it at all I had sooooo many frustrating issues with that bloody UNRELIABLE SEQUENCER.(ie Tracks missing for no apparent reason and others) I now have gone back to a Fantom X and even though audio is 8 stereo tracks it is an absolute joy to use. No glitches...The buttons work EVERY time you push em....NOW My official opinion of the Korg Oasys....Great idea...Much of it works very well indeed...The Sequencer is dated and glitchy and should have been far more advanced and capable for a machine of this price...The hardware (ie. Buttons and sliders) feel from new like they belong on a budget instrument and they are bloody unreliable The screen is nice although they could have made much better use of colour...And of course it does sound very nice indeed...Korg if you are going to do this again make sure the thing works properly BEFORE you release it and if your going to charge like a wounded bull for it use BETTER hardware for it. AND instead of ignoring your customers pleas to update the shitty sequencer when I find it hard to believe you couldnt have... LISTEN to em a bit harder...You've Lost a lot of customers including me I won't be fooled again

It's a shame you had so bad luck with the OASYS, mine has worked like a dream. I wish you luck with the Fantom.

You won't get those hugely spacious mixes and clarity you get when multi tracking on OASYS ever again.

That to me makes the OASYS priceless. Yes the sequencer is dated, but it's still 100% fully functional.

I'm sorry you had trouble - mine has been absolutely rock solid.

Roland makes nice keyboards and workstations. So does Yamaha. And it's good that you found a solution for your needs, that works better for you. Congrats!

But I cannot recall any workstation sounding like the Oasys when I bought it in 2006. I had no problems with sequencer glitches - only with the interface itself - but one gets used to it and it's working excellent, once you understand it and use it regularly.

What I did not like that much was that M3 got sequ-updates that were asked for MANY times before M3 was launched and the "Flagship" never got it.

Nice thread, Dany! The last couple of years - well, since the miKo came out, I've totally warmed up to the Open Labs concept. Unlike the original poster's woes, my OASYS has been rock solid on my projects. The last project was a dream to work on.

The point is, I'm used to having gigs of audio loaded up in seconds. I work with a lot of audio and samples, and I like to be able to mangle it, so a PC3 is worthless to me, and the Motif, Fantom and M3 would be cumbersome. If something happens to my OASYS, I will replace it or go the Open Labs route.

If I had the neKo or miKo, I would probably record the OASYS to it, as you described. While I have no qualms about the sound quality within the OASYS, I am aware that the audio recorder is 16 bit.


As for synth reliability, the OASYS does freeze up, from time to time. However, when I scored THE AWAKENING, I used both my Roland Fantom and the OASYS sequencers. The Roland froze up more! I had most of a song done and the Fantom would just freeze, not allowing me to save it. I had no choice but to turn it off and reboot. Just goes to show that even hardware is not immune to computer freeze ups. I don't think the OASYS ever lost song data, where as my Roland did.

Don't be too sad for me though because the guy I sold it too is a friend of mine and the O is now in his very nicely fitted out studio and I have the use of my ex Oasys when ever I wish and also the use of the rest of the studio soooooo it's nor all bad hey And it's only 10 mins from my place

I've warmed up to OpenLabs in the last two months! Here is a link to thier daily 'live' video productions. They archive the video's too. OpenLabs actually call thier keyboards a 'Production Station' not a workstation.

By the way, if people are having sequencer glitches be sure to update to OS 1.3.3, that seems to fix more things than the accompanying release notes mention seemingly. Myself and another users both had this one really weird problem that was making the Oasys behave oddly in the sequencer and 1.3.3 fixed it. I didn't see a specific item in the release notes that was related to the problem though.

Which is the oddly related problem you mention?

However, having experienced weird behaviours in the past myself (specially related to audio tracks), I noticed the OASYS sequencer runs smoother since 1.3.3 OS.
I guess it improved something, as you say?

You are going to miss the 2 recent XPansion sounds, but all the best with your new board..

I can't finally prove the following impression, but in my judgement, since I use solely the MiKo for sequencing and the OASYS only in Program Mode and sometimes in Combi Mode, I didn't experience ANY FREEZES with the OASYS for several months now. Usually that happened only, when I used the OASYS's sequencer. Without using it's sequencer, it seems to me, that the OASYS works completely stabil without any freezes, just like a pure Hardwaresynth. So this is only a theorie, but until now, the OASYS gave me no reason to falsify it and as long this remains the case, the theorie persists as true.
