Radias R - MIDI not working at all. Please Help!!

Post by Belegur »

Hi,

Firstly, I'll explain the setup I'm using as it might give someone a clue.

I'm Running MAC OS X 10.4.11 and Cubase Essential 4.5.2
A M3-88 Updated to 2.0.3 and the latest M3 editor installed
A Radias R running 2.00 and likewise the Radias editor is 2.00
The Radias R is mounted next to the M3-M and running off the M3-88 keys also.
A Roland JV-2080 and a Roland VS-2000 connected using an Edirol UM-2 USB MIDI interface.
I have updated the KORG USB MIDI driver to 1.0.8

The M3 and it's editor are working 100% in cubase.
The JV-2080 and VS-2000 are working perfectly on the UM-2 and in cubase.

The Radias R however isn't doing anything at all. One strange thing I have noticed though, is that the Radias MIDI in and MIDI out are displayed as follows in Cubase and in the Radias Editor:

Radias(Update) - Radias DUMP IN
Radias(Update) - Radias DUMP OUT

I have made sure all the settings in the MIDI filter page are enabled. The global channel is set to the default (1). When I select the first (cheesy) program HarnessPower and look into the MIDI channel settings the 4 timbres are using GLB, 08,09,10 respectively.

If I create a new MIDI track in cubase, select the Radias (as it appears above) and select MIDI channel 1,8,9 or 10, and then try to write notes in the Key Editor window the Radias does not respond at all.

When I play the actual M3 keys with both the M3 and Radias USB cables connected, the MIDI in and out indicators light up in cubase. However if I disconnect the M3 USB cable and only have the Radias connected I get nothing. Nor does the MIDI Monitor in the Radias Editor respond to anything.

I've setup a Cubase project file to use as a template with 17 tracks for the M3 (channels 1-16 and one for the editor), another 16 tracks for the JV-2080 (one for each channel) and now just need to add another 4 for the Radias R (one for each timbre).

I'm pulling what's left of my hair out :( as I've been able to work everything else out. I guess I was wrong in assuming this thing would be easier to setup than the M3 was.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as this is the final hurdle for me to get over to complete my setup.

PS: If anyone from KORG is out there... can we please have a VST Instrument Plugin for the Radias like the M3?

The Radias USB-Midi ports should be set to "RADIAS - KBD/KNOB" and "RADIAS - SOUND".

See the online help for the Radias software editor under Setup - Mac OS X.

The IN and OUT selections mentioned above are the only ones related to the Radias that are available in the drop down boxes in the Editor Preferences screen :(

Then that's probably the problem. Something is wrong with the driver configuration. Redo the driver installation, then test with the Radias editor before loading Cubase or any other midi application that will try to use those USB-midi ports (virtual ports).

I've already tried running the USB MIDI driver install again to no avail... is there any way on the MAC you can 'un-install' the driver before trying again?

do you hear any sound when you use the 16 keys in 'keyboard' mode? or when you connect a MIDI cable from a controller for example from the M3's MIDI out (transmitting on the correct channel).
if not then it sounds like it might be a firmware problem (and you'll have to send it off for repair).
if you do, then yes it probably is the driver.
