Help Needed ...Audio Tracks in Oasys and a Midi Question...

Hi All...

I'm want to use my Korg Trinity to record (it's a stereo combi) into the audio tracks of my Oasys ...Is there anything different about setting it up to record, i.e., is it the same as when I record vocals ...Can I just plug into audio inputs 1 & 2 and set them as line inputs ...choose multi-track and go?

Also, I'd like to use the Oasys as the midi controller so I don't have to play the Trinity ...Any advice on how I can achieve that?

Thanks, so much ...I really appreciate any assistance.

Greetings & Well Wishes,
Steve :?:

I am not too sure exactly how it all works, but I am sure Mike Conway will be able to help. He has also produced a DVD which incloudes all of this stuff!!

Basically it's the same as recording vocals. But you will use the line-ins and no phantom-power of course for this set up.

If you record a stereo-signal from your Triton you can setup the corresponding Oasys tracks as "stereo pair". And yes, that will have to be a multi-rec - check the box on the Oasys for this.

Give it a try before you record the whole stuff. Does the outcome meet your expectations? If you run into a problem get back to the forum with a detailed description.

Hi Guys....

Thanks, ever-so ...Yeah, I have the Mike Conway, "Unofficial Oasys" ...Though, I didn't see that ...I'll have to peruse more closely.

Say, Charlie ...Do you know where the "stereo pair" thing is ...You know ...wherever you go to select?

Also, how about the midi thing ...Do you get what I'm trying to do? ...I'd like to use the Oasys as the controller since it's my recorder it only makes sense ....Thanks, again, Guys.

Cheers, ...Steve

Hi awatu,

Here are some links to a couple more videos that Mike Conway posted on Youtube. I have found them most helpfull for recording audio into my oasys sequencer:

Not sure exactly what you're trying to do with the midi and perhaps I am over simplifing but have you tried just using a midi cable from the Oasys midi out to the Trinity midi in? Probably need to turn Local Contol OFF in the oasys global settings or at least change the midi channel so you are not triggering the internal sounds of the oasys.

I am guessing as I have not tried this yet. Hope it helps! :)

Best Regards,
Rick

Yeah, pretty much. Just watch for clipping (overload). When in Song mode, check the PREFERENCES tab and it will show you the level meters.

"Stereo pairing" will be on the AUDIO TRACK MIXER tab. Press the upper right dropdown menu and select STEREO PAIR.

As for MIDI, you can output your OASYS to the MIDI input of your Triton. If the OASYS is making sounds and you only want hear the Triton, you can go to GLOBAL - MIDI and uncheck the LOCAL CONTROL ON box.

Hi Again Mike and All...

Sorry 'bout that ...I wasn't in "preferences" ...so, I can see the incoming signal ...However, I am still having a midi issue ...I turned off the local control ...So ...cool ...no Oasys sounds ...However, I still can't hear the Trinity unless I play that board ...I must be doing something wrong ...Any ideas? ...Thanks, again...

Cheers, ...Steve

Hey There, Mike...

Thanks, a million for that ...So, it's natural not to see signal coming into the level meter? ...I mean ...I can see when it goes to overload but nothing shows on the meter ...Thanks, a million.

Cheers, ...Steve

You should see a signal - bouncing blue meters. Checklist:

Checked MULTI REC box?

Made Stereo Pair out of Tracks 1 & 2?

REC SOURCE set to "IN 1/2"? Note: make sure it is not "Rec 1/2", unless you set that in either your Global mixer or the Song AUDIO IN/SAMPLING mixer.

Armed Tracks by changing PLAY to REC?

As for the MIDI, go to GLOBAL mode - MIDI tab and at the top, set your BASIC CHANNEL to 1. Combis have multiple channel, so scroll though 1 - 16, while playing notes and see what happens.

Likewise, go into your Triton's MIDI preferences and make sure that no MIDI filters are on. Set that basic channel to 1, also. I don't have a Triton anymore, so I don't remember that layout.

With my Virus, I usually have to switch that machine to another program and then back. I wouldn't think a Triton would need to do that, but try it.
