it's possible conect a usb-midi keyboard to korg oasys??
for example, korg nano key to oasys?
it's need a driver?

As far as I know, the USB connectors are only for storage devices such as hard drives, and 'jump' or 'thumb' drives.

I connected my Kontrol 49 to the Oasys USB ports and it powers it,it also allowed me to control the Oasys...(think it only worked on the Global Midi channel)


So couldn't see why the Nano's can't be powered too

Since when does this work? I thought there's no other way than the MIDI-plugs to control Midi-Data of the Oasys?!?

I'd be hesitant to assume this works, and even more hesitant to assume it works with a controller made by anyone but Korg. There is no standard for MIDI over USB, which is why each MIDI keyboard you'd buy will have its own device drivers: so that the operating system can interpret that keyboard's USB data as MIDI messages and route them to an appropriate MIDI device. At any rate, it's much more likely that it'll work with a Korg keyboard, since they all use the same method of doing MIDI over USB, than with anything else.

Why are you looking to go this route? Why not pick up a cheap controller (other than one of the Nano controllers) and connect via MIDI?

Bringing up and old topic here as this never seems to have had a resolution.

I would love to use two NanoKey controllers with the O but no-one (not even Dan it seems) knows if its possible or not!

Anyone else out there successfully controlled/played the Oasys from a controller keyboard via USB and with no Midi cable???

This would be a dream come true if its possible.

Why not just try it? I seriously doubt it would break anything. But don't blame me if it does! Well, I don't know about the software, but for the hardware a USB connection is a USB connection so if it doesn't work it should simply not recognise it, right?

I also think this is kind of an obvious use for the USB port, and I'm surprised many synth manufacturers haven't picked up on this yet. For example there have been a number of people asking about connecting a nanoKontrol or nanoPad to the M3's USB connection.

Would be interesting to hear more from Kontrol49.

Well I have, to an extent.

Plugged in an Alesis Photon X25. Nothing. No power.

Then I tried an Oxygen8. That powered off the Oasys but still had to use a Midi cable.

I don't have a NanoKey and don't want to buy one just to find out that it doesn't work.

Interesting idea that only Korg controllers will be able to do this by USB alone.

I connected my nanoKEY, it's powered but *cannot* be used as a MIDI controller through the USB socket. It's not for that.

No, it's OK. For that matter, that's not a bad idea anyway.

The USB connectors on the OASYS are for transmitting / receiving various and well-documented types of OASYS storage data and files. There's no specific MIDI-data or Audio-data streaming capability possible between the OASYS and any device, including keyboards, connected over USB. Anyone achieveing it must be doing it through some 'side effect', undocumented.

What Dan probably means is that you can connect any other keyboard with a physical 5-pin din MIDI hardware output, and connect it to the the physical hardware 5-pin din MIDI input on the OASYS, to control sounds on the OASYS.

Remember - MIDI is an old, confused protocol that's both a hardware and a software protocol all muddled up and unlayered . So asking if the OASYS can be controlled by MIDI is not specific enough - do you mean hardware or software part of the MIDI protocol (or both)?

In a nutshell, as far as I know, the OASYS USB connectors so not act as a MIDI hardware interface (be reasonable in your criticism here - although this is limited, remember that OASYS is now a 5+ year old instrument).

But although I haven't tried it, I suspect you could link (via a 5-pin DIN MIDI interface such as the MOTU ones or even the simpler Philip Reees ones) several keyboards with 5-pin MIDI out connector to the OASYS 5-pin MIDI in (via the MIDI interface) and have each of them assigned to a different MIDI channel of a Combi and play those various sounds from the various connected keyboards. But as Dan perhaps meant - it all has to be connected via the hardware 5-pin MIDI sockets, NOT the USB port.

that could be pretty good as a live setup! I wonder if USB-MIDI hardware converters are available where a MIDI controller-keyboard with USB_MIDI hardware only can have its MIDI converted to 5-pin-din and sent into the OASYS that way?
