Great ideas here. I just wanted to make sure it's clear that the Chord Triggers CAN be assigned to CC messages, but only to control external MIDI devices or software. You can do this in Global mode... Press PAGE SELECT, then touch MIDI, then touch the Ext. 2 tab to customize them.

Now, just to fan the flames... I'd imagine that as long as you have an M50 plugged into a computer, running a utility like MIDIOX, you could have one CC message trigger another one, and essentially loop it back to the M50.
So can you plug the MIDI Out to the MIDI In with one cable for the same effect?

That's an interesting idea ... might work if the cable had crossed data in and data out lines ..

In computer networking you can construct a cat 5 "crossover" cable is just this fashion and have two computers communicate directly hooked to one another. Perhaps a MIDI cable could be similarly modified. Looks like I just found a weekend project!! :D I would love to have my chord triggers available for other MIDI events. They are basically worthless to me since they have no velocity sensitivity.

That's what occurred to me, too. I've connected computers using serial 'cross-over' cables, and MIDI is just a serial protocol with an oddball baud rate ... Just might work. If you try it, keep us posted.

Midi cables aren't crossed, like TP ethernet cables. So just plug a midi cable between the in and out. But beware of feedback loops.

Actually my idea can be derailed if the M50 can't do anything with the MIDI event the chord buttons send out. I will research but does anyone one off hand know what event/sysex it is and if the M50 responds to it, or it can be assigned dynamically?

only notes and CCs as far as I know can be assigned to the chord buttons.

I think that it might have extra functions for Karma M50.

If M50 had a sampler the chord pads would be perfect for triggering some effect samples...

Regarding straight-forward chord playback, the pads can be useful to trigger chords that are difficult or impossible to play with two hands... or regular two-handed chords at a time when you need one hand free to play lead.

Because just to memorize chords, I think it's kinda lame.
I couldn't agree more. IMO those buttons are pretty much useless!

It would be awsome if we could put other functions on them, like favorite patches/combis.

I've been using the chord pads quite a lot now and my conclusion is that 4 pads isn't quite enough :) It would be great if Korg could add an option to the assignable switches (SW1&2) that pressing the switch would give you 4 new chord possibilities. So you could assign 8 different chords (like in the m3) and change the chord set with the switch.
Or.. maybe I should stop complaining and buy a NanoPad or something but just a suggestion :D
