Rob, the USB serves as the midi connection. It goes like this,
I have the songs recorded in midi on the M3 sequencer, i save off those tracks to a flash drive as a standard midi file.
Then plug the flashdrive into my computer that has PT's on it, and import the midi files (say 6 for example), and they are then all on their own tracks.
Next, since the M3 is connected to the computer via USB, it will send the midi data BACK to the M3, to pick up the sounds from each track there, and then the STEREO OUT of the M3 plugs into the Input 1&2 of the M-box. So it basically creates a circle.
Midi data from PTs is sent out to the M3, it picks up the sounds from the M3's tone generator there, then it send them out of the M3's main out puts, back into PTs via the M-box input 1&2, and is then recorded onto a new audio tack all in perfect sync with one another.
I just make an audio track before i hit play, arm it to record, set the time for the beginning, hit record, then play...and then just let it run real time while it records onto PTs on the audio track, then once everything is recorded, as X-Trade said, i can delete the midi tracks because i now have the audio ones.
It works, trust me, i just finished doing it lol. I had a little trouble with setting the Channel In's/Outs at first, but i think thats because i didn't mute all the midi tracks but one, kidna seems as thou it got over loaded and all kinds of crazy sounds from the M3 were playing that i didnt even have set up! Once i muted them all but the one i was going to record it worked perfectly thou.
Maybe you know about something that a MIDI cable will do that a USB wont, but the USB worked for what i needed it to, which was to send midi date out of PTs, to the M3.
Appreciate all your guy's help, maybe one day ill get that firewire thing you were tellin me about X-Trade, 6 tracks at once, man how sweet! Add that to the wish list i suppose right? Now i just have to continue to hit the books and read up on some mixing tips and how it works in PTs and anything else i can find to help me out. If you guys have any suggestions on that (even thou its off topic, which i suppose is ok since this problem is solved
) i'd love to hear them. Thanks again all!

The USB provides a virtual MIDI connection that is all. it is also a much faster data rate than the MIDI ports as MIDI is a very old standard. Having the USB hooked up is like having a MIDI interface connected directly to your computer and your M3's MIDI Ports, it just takes out the middle-man
