Do I NEED a midi cable to use my kaoss pad as a midi controller in ableton? Or can i achieve this with a usb cable? If so, please explain how, the manual is unclear for me on this.

Thanks.

When the KP3 is connected via USB and powered on, it
should be recognized by your Mac as a USB-device (controller, mass-storage, audio-interface).

Have you installed the KORG-MIDI driver software too?

A MIDI-cable isn't necessary now but..

If you want to use the KP3 as a MIDI-controller, the manual states you
should flick the switch a the back of the instrument to 'EXT' for external control.

Then have Ableton LIVE rescan for MIDI-devices.

Also note that the KP3-editor unlocks the full potential because every knob or
slider can have a different MIDI-message assigned.

Good luck and enjoy ;)
