anyone think any of the EP patches sound pretty close to a default patch inside the X-50? I don't own a Rhodes so I can't compare, but have listened to a few on youtube, but stil can't decide. Any real world experience out there?

which default x50 patch sounds closest to a Rhodes piano?

Thanks!

I owned a Rhodes 73 Stage Piano for many years and have been impressed at the electric piano simulations not just on the X50 but on synths/digital sampling keyboards generally since the days of the DX7 and M1. There are quite a few very serviceable Rhodes electric piano patches out there.

Anyway, to answer your question, Combi A016: Session E.P. is a good one. Make sure you turn the arpeggiator OFF, though. Combi B048: Stream E. Piano isn't bad, either. Combi C112: Shiny DigiPiano is excellent but you'd need to massage the EQ to get it to really sound like an authentic Rhodes.

If you want to use single programs instead of combinations, A017: EP bright is good but would need some chorusing and EQ'ing. Same with A078: Classic Tines. A081: Analog E.Piano is authentic-sounding but extremely thin and dark. A097: DarkTineStage EP is Rhodes-like but might be too dark, with too much treble rolled off. Beef it up with chorusing and/or make a combi out of it with A078 or A081 to get closer to a real Rhodes attack if you prefer a dark sound. B017: Stereo E.Piano has a nice swirly chorus that reminds me of the elec. piano in Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are."

To me, program D017: Vintage EP (very bright) and D078: Studio Stage EP (dark with the high frequencies rolled way off) sound the closest to a real Rhodes. If you made a combi with one of those and A078, A081, or A097 (or 3 or 4 of them), you'd have a pretty decent mock Rhodes.

Experiment and have fun. :)
