problems with my PA1X

Post by worth »

for some reason the second style button from the left is not working . It would normally be used for the 16bt styles or the latin 2or the HD functions. It does not respond at all to the touch. If i am on other banks and then press this button it does not respond. I can change the styles in that set of banks on the screen but not any other way. Can anyone help..... Reuben i hope you are reading this or Karmathanever ?

It sounds like there is a problem with the tack switch.

A normal indication that a tack switch is going is that the button becomes unresponsive from soft touch and you have to press a little harder to get it to work. So if that hasn't happened then it could simply be in need of a jet of compressed air.

You know those cans of compressed air you get for cleaning Computers ?. Well blowing one of them into the button may help dislodge any dust or particles causing the button failure.

OR... the switch might indeed be dead and need replacing. The switches only cost pocket change, but the installation can be a little on the expensive side.

Regards
Sharp.

thanks Sharp. I will try the compressed air can first. If that doesnt work i dont think i will pay for someone to open up my keys as i can stil select styles from the screen for that one button.

Hope you solve this one Worth. It amazes me that the buttons on a $10 calculator are virtually bullet proof while the buttons on a $5000 instrument are failing!
I too have a couple of buttons that don't respond all the time but I'm putting up with it - so far none have failed completely. I know some owners have ordered the buttons in and replaced them themselves.
I guess Cannon or Sanyo are making millions of calculators so the've got to get it right while the problems on things like musical instruments don't show up until its tooooo late.
How's church music going? - I enjoyed these couple of glimpses you posted some time ago.
Best,
John

Just to add info; my start/stop button broke yesterday for the second time in 7'ish years. But on the bright side, the fix I did in 2005 held longer than the original button did, so I just might fix it once more instead of a replacement. ;)

my button unstuck all of its own accord so it is working perfectly now. However i have the PA1X speaker version and the keyboard at high volume buzzes probably from vibration but i cant pin down what is vibrating, the case or the speakers themselves. The speakers have not blown.

Good Kjell, you're gonna need it sooner or later.
But I think you misunderstood worth. I believe that worth's problem was just a touch of dust on the micro-switch. ;)
I have experienced the same a couple of times.

But now the replacement procedure is written!
