Using Korg Triton Extreme LIVE with a band

OK ... So I'm new to the KTE and also this great forum ... Perhaps I jumped in a bit too quickly with my first 2 questions ... I have now returned the Yamaha Stagepas300 (very dissapointing) and now have 2 x Behringer B215A EUROLIVE Active PA Speakers (awesome!!), complete with a mixer. I have tried a USB stick with the KTE and it seems to do the job. Why no mension in the User Manual of memory 'sticks'? Perhaps they were not around when the KTE was introduced ?? ...

Anyway ... I now plan to use the KTE LIVE with my band and want to know the best way to set it up for a live performance. No need at this stage to use any of the sequencer/arpeggio/MIDI side at this stage, just SOUNDS.

I am thinking along these lines ...

Re-name one of the Combination 'Categories', call it, say 'JW LIVE'

Set up numerous user Combis, whether they are single sounds or multiple layered patches. Name the individual Combis e.g. Sax solo / Piano & Strings / Organ etc etc. They will all be there on screen at the touch of a single button. Perhaps delete all other exsisting factory combis so that my lot come up first ?

Any comments would be appreciated. Sorry to ramble on.

There are lots of different names for these USB 'memory sticks': 'flash drives', 'pen drives', 'USB mass storage devices', etc...

anyway, on to live use.
I use a TR live, controlling a number of modules too. the TR is at the completely opposite end of the spectrum compared to the extreme, but they are still the same synth with the same basic feature set.

I find it is great to use the sequencer mode live. Not that I am not using the sequencer running, and am not sequencing anything. sometimes I use the record arm as a click track for our drummer on an alternate output, but thats it!

the main advantages of sequencer mode are:
-have access to up to 16 timbres. twice as many as in a combi!
-have all of the changes in order
-not having to overwrite factory patches and combis
-make EXT patch changes to rack modules and other gear without playing them from the keyboard

if you build a 'combi' in sequencer mode, you just have to make sure that every patch that you want playing is assigned to the same MIDI channel as the first track. if you want to send EXT changes you can use EXT and EXT2 timbres on different channels. and normally they won't be played by the keyboard (unless you change so that you are playing that channel).

instead of changing patches all the time, I try to make it so that I have an external keyboard, so that I have all the sounds split and layered between the two keyboards - twice as many keys, half as many patch changes. usually I can fit all the sounds I need for one song onto the two keyboards. however, sometimes I may use more than one 'song' in the sequencer. from here forward I will refer to sequencer 'songs' as 'scenes', as that is what I am using them for. and then as long as you have the song title highlighted, you can progress to the next scene by pressing the increment button or turning the wheel.

Pecause in the sequencer just like in combi and program mode, you can have a number of different entries. so for example I might have 000: intro, 001: verse, etc... but they do have to be saved to a file - they are not stored on the synth at power-off.

What I do is a save each song's setups to a different file. so I would have a 'colours inside' song file, a 'magic flight' song file, etc...

when preparing for a gig, setting a set list, these can be loaded in order using the 'append' rather than 'clear' option. and then save all that to a file e.g. 'set.sng'. load that on the night and all the different scenes for each song are in order ready to do!

in terms of what comes up first on power up you can have the keyboard start up where you last had it. Go to global mode, touch the system pref. tab and under the Power On Mode switch it to "Memorize". That will make it come up the all the pages and modes that you last had it on.

Hi John, nice to see you on here m8. Ive been a member on here for a while now and got some great advice when I got my KTE. I hope you have been keeping well. I have been speaking to Adam and he says that you helped him get his EL900 up and running.

Anyway, you dont want to delete your combi settings, they are always useful to go back to when you dont want to start a sound or sounds from scratch. However bank N is yours to do what you want with and when I was in my band I used bank N, combo 100 onwards for my band sounds, 001 - 099 for my personal use. However if you do delete them, they are easy to get back. Do you have the MOSS board installed too?

I am suprised that you went away from YAHAMA. Whilst the KTE is a nice instrument I was also toying with the idea of getting a Yamaha Motif XS7, they have very nice organ flute sounds.

Have fun John.

i've owned the KTE for bout 2 years now and i been finding new things about my keyboard everyday i use it.. now what i do live is i set up my keyboard for split keys that way when im playing i can just jump from one part to another but i also use the 10 ft. its easy to just jump from one sound to another i keep all my sounds the same level. i dont like really using stock sounds i perfer my own mix of sounds..

i just took my E bank and made my own mix of sounds.. my brass are my fav. i got different style of brass that will fit anytype of music.. now im mainly a latin musician so i use alot of brass n organs but im growing to using alot more synth so its fun to build your own mix of sounds so when you play live people be like DAMN you got some nice sounds..
