Hi Friends a question regarding Piano Sounds on the M3

Hi

I of course have a Korg M3 :)

But i also have an issue i think that almost all of the Acoustic piano sounds are very "thin" at the high notes (excuse my english)

At the lower notes (octaves) it sounds very good but when you go up it sounds almost plastic

Do you know what i mean? hard to explain.. :?

But if anyone understand and have a solution for this "issue" please let me know.

thanks in advance :)

Hello aprilsbonfire,

It's all down to the quality of the samples and the storage space allocated. If you want to try a really nice piano (300 Gbytes), download this one for 25 Euros. You will need EXB-M256 expansion card fitted first:

http://www.irishacts.com/ezypal/index.p ... iano_vol_1

There will be a reduced size version shortly, taking 40% less space but only using 3 layers instead of 5 layers. All existing customers will be able to download the new version free. The samples are the same.

Best regards,
Rob

here's what I did, if it doesn't sound better after this, let me know i'll give it another go.

I made a combi, with 3 programs (all 4-Way Stereo Grand Piano, but you can use any piano you think sounds best) then I split the keyboard up into 3 sections, a bass, a mid, and a treble section. The bass section (first program) I left the bass where it was, as it sounds fine to me. The mid section (program 2, which I made from C3 to B4 I believe) I left the EQ pretty much the same, however, i may have added a little bass, to improve the tone. On the last section of the piano (Program 3, which was the rest of the keys on the piano) what I did to make it more "full" was 1st: add a little bass to it, 2nd: take a little treble out of it, 3rd: in "tone adjust", I turned the drive down a little. This makes them sound a lot better in my opinion.

I'm assuming you know how to split the ranges up between the 3 programs, and adjust EQ on the individual programs, if not, let me know!

Also, Korg intended these "upper keys" to be a little dry, as that's pretty much what they sound like on a full grand. So yeah, obviously a program with 5 layers will sound better than the pianos that Korg included, but for me, the changes sounded pretty good:)

Also, once you've got this "new piano" all tuned to how you like it, you can save it to a program (an action which is not reversible, unless you saved the combi)

Hope this helps!

Haha damn, I would take a 300Gb Grand Piano program any day, if the M3 had a built in hard-drive, or a s**t ton of flash memory haha.. Do you know how amazing that would sound? man, they could make...20 plus layers of samples. I vote yes.

Get on it Korg.
