Hi all,
Thanks for the link Dan. A useful comparison. And while I am writing I would just like to reiterate that I am very happy with my OASYS and it still holds pride of place in my "sardine tin" studio. And I know that you guys would have been happy to continue working on updates but I presume your hands are tied by Korg Japan.
So yes, while I do appreciate the fact that OASYS has had some great updates and addons, and while I agree that the support we had from Korg was superb right up until they said there would be no more updates, there are still moments when I get disappointed that support wasnt continued.
As Sharp succinctly states, the EFX was one area for example where Korg let us down. I thought EFX meant actual new effects, rather than a bunch of presets for the effects that were already included. While I do appreciate the presets as they are very useful, but they are only presets, and not really an expanded effects selection as we were led to believe from the OASYS' advertising. That was a bit of a let down.
The one thing I would like to ask Dan though. As OASYS is built around software, presumably there are still bugs that need to be addressed. Will Korg be releasing any bug fixes or do we have to just live with these? I think this is one area in particular where the OASYS is so different from all Korg's other instruments and why updates were more important. Even if we had to pay for them that would have been acceptable.
Well I am going to leave it at that. I respect everyone elses point of view...even if I don't agree
Cheers for putting up with my rant though

Lewis, sorry to hear u want to abandon your interface to the Oasys.
I love my Oasys and it serves my current needs but...
The problem is that its design, for what you are wanting to do with it, is missing a critical link to the outside world (Firewire and/or ethernet). This might be due to the 'pioneering' nature of the O when it came out.
Seems like Yamaha realized what the O was missing and came out with the Motif XS (which I recently acquired even though imho the Oasys sound engines are better sounding). The XS then interfaces to a DAW via the Firewire in an easier manner. Your software should be using that kind of link instead of relying on a driver capturing mouse and kbd hits. It will be more robust. By the way my XS. like my Oasys is running on Linux but provides Ethernet, Firewire, generic USB. Its almost the second iteration of the Oasys, with a friendlier sequencer albiet not as powerful for sound design. In spite of all that I would never let go of my Oasys.
It would seen that Korg should be able to give you the 'hooks' to allow you to use it as a Control surface source for you app. (I am a Computer Scientest by trade so I know its doable). They could send these signals selectively to the USB port.
Then they can offer this feature to their other products. If they do it quick, this could be a patentable option for their synths. (I will expect a cut from them ofcourse for giving them the idea for the patent....)
But anyway, try to keep working with Korg but imho, the Motif XS is the closest there is to the Oasys currently for what you want to do.

I don't see any EFX's (like advertised) or the FUNCTION button listed there

True, and letting other possible puntualizations about Dan´s list aside, yet Korg themselves call the 2.0 Xpanded Update for the M3 "
The most major upgrade in Korg history","
One giant step",etc, etc, in their own words.
An I do belive them.
Some of the features it includes are in the top list of any OASYS and any other Korg WS user for years.
The advanced MIDI SysEx Editing, and the "touch-drag” Piano Roll Edit and Track View new screens justify for themselves alone this statement, even if M3 users had to pay for it instead of having it for free!
So to turn around at any point in the future with an OASYS mark II and no big bone to throw existing OASYS users would be a slap in the face when the existing OASYS was stopped well short of it's hardware limits.
Yeah
+1
It's a truly awesome keyboard. The best KORG ever produced.
Agreed, no question about that.

Mauror, please stop coming back with your "truth" about Korg and Oasys and Sharp being bought etc. It's too depressing for us Oasys users to read your convincing conclusions. We prefer being happy with our decisions and not being lectured on how we have been fooled etc. We are content if you alone know your truth. Peace and thanks!

Here's a suggestion to try to settle MauroR77's grievance and to set the Forum at peace:
- Sharp - let Mauro77 post to a new thread one lengthy, detailed description of his grievance with the OASYS - and then lock it down
- MauroR77 - once you've had you say, there forevermore for people to read as a single post and locked down thread, leave it at that and then contribute in other ways in the forum.
Alternatively – let MauroR77 have his say, let Sharp only respond once – and let MauroR77 respond to that – and then lock it down. If anyone else responds, Sharp simply delete their posts. Then lock it down.
You cannot keep locking MauroR77 out, but MauroR77 - you've got to articulate your grievance in a genuine and detailed way just once and then move on.
Kevin.

Sorry Kevin, he has been banned for life for being highly abusive and for being a compulsive liar.
I've personally even been on the receiving end of extreme levels of violent threats and abuse from this guy through email and the PM systems here and over on KLF.
Regards
Sharp.

You have my support, Sharp. Good riddance.

Mauro has been extremely rude and obnoxious to various users in the past including myself, and has been warned by the forum moderators several times in the past to curtail his abusive posts but didnt heed the warnings, so yes....good riddance to him and his pointless posts
Perhaps some anger management classes would be in order, haha

I'm usually against locking someone out. There's no one "free of guilt to throw the first stone" on somebody else.
However, knowing how much time sharp spends for this forum/community, how often he's helping everybody asking for help ... and reading now that he has been threatened ... that's incredible!
Now I fully understand the ban. If I'd run a forum like this and I get treated like this ... I would ban such a user too. It's only fair and logical.

Just to throw my comments into the ring: I personally wish that, unless there is a compelling reason to remove them (slander, illegal activity, etc.), posts were left in place even if a user is banned. Leaving a clear record of their forum activity means that everyone can understand what happened; the banned user cannot claim unfair treatment; etc. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Dan.
I see your point but I keep all this sort of thing filed away in the event I ever need it.
I'm on the wrong PC to do this now but this is a copy and paste from two posts from yesterday alone.

Wow, that's fairly impressive, even by trolling standards.

Wow. Didn't know things could get so ugly. I'll just add that I really appreciate this forum, and the atmosphere here, and I'm sure I speak for many, many users. Sorry to see that in order to maintain this good vibe, you have to deal with things like that...

Sharp,
That is positively disgusting! Dude, I am truly sorry that you end up getting that sort of profane and threatening smut from anyone here. I don't know about the laws in Ireland but if a person does that sort of thing in the U.S. he/she can end up behind bars for years.

It doesn't take an act of violence to land a person in prison, merely the threat can be enough. Personally, I would turn over all of that abuse to authorities. If he is getting THAT steamed at you for basically....nothing....then imagine if someone really did tick him off! Imagine if he was sending those messages to your kid....or anyone's kid. He needs to get some idea of the repercussions of his actions. There's my 2 cents.
Hey, I also bought your sounds. No where on the box or the CD does it give the buyer permission to bash you...lol.
Take care man.

Don't need to be so "hard" to me, come on, I haven't killed anyone and I ASSURE you that my behaviour has been always polite and good with everyone (in real life and on the net). I've asked sorry to Sharp already, of course he didn't forgive my behaviour and I accept it and I understand it. I know that my words won't count now but I'm a good person who have never had a problem with anyone in my entire life, and Sharp can confirm it since before this I've never hassled anyone. Yes it's disgusting what I did but I did it and I can't come back. I'm sorry that you can't know who really I am and always been: a helpful and good person. I know that I'll be banned again and I had to have the right to reply at least.
Sorry to all.
Mauro.
