Kaoss Mini - Direct vs. Send?

Hi.

I use a kaoss mini as a send/return on my mixer when in DJing for delay.

When I use a normal kaoss pad 3 I get a clean delay sound. When I use the mini I get quite a phased sound. When it starts up it says "Dir" which I assume means Direct.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Is there a way to set up as a send and should I be doing that?

Thanks all :)

This is straight from the owners manual page 3.

Code: Select all

Hold down the MEMORY A button and press the
B button. Use the PROG/VALUE knob to select
“dir” (direct) or “snd” (send).

Hi benjiboko,

With your configuration, you'll definitely want to make the change sipa recommended. The "Direct" setting is best when you're using the miniKP between the master outputs and the amplifier. if you're using it within an effects loop or a send/return bus, use the "Send" setting.

"Direct" will output the original signal as well as the effected version, and this will introduce phasing with your setup, especially when you're not effecting with the pad. On the other hand, "Send" will only output the effect itself, and not the original signal. This way, you can use the return control on your mixer to adjust how much of the miniKP's effect is being used, effectively like a "wet/dry mix" control that only goes up to 50:50.

You've got it plugged in the right way, just set it to "Send," and let your mixer's return knob work for you. :)
