note on message with external control surface?

Post by SoulBe »

Hi,

is it possible to create a note on / note off message with the external control surface ? When I understand the manual you can create controller messages CC 0 up to 199 but no note on/off?

What I am trying to do: For small gigs we controll the light set on stage via midi controller; to change scenes it is necessary to send a note on message to the light console. Therefore I wonder if this is possible with the external control surface, because I cannot use the keyboard and pads as I am playing sounds on it.

Or has anybody another idea to create note on messages besides the keyboard to send them on a different channel to control external device?

In a Combi, you could set up a zone of the keyboard (or a couple pads) to send note-ons on a different MIDI channel. That's my first thought, anyway...

Thank you Dan,

but I often use the pads and the whole keyboard range in live performances so I wanted to avoid using them for controling light scenes. I also thought of the sequencer, but that gives me not a accurate control over the time when the message is sent ...

I think the Korg 'nanoKontrol' control surface would fit your needs.
It's small , inexpensive, and simply works ! Research it.

The "Nano" products need a computer to work. There's no regular MIDI connections, just USB.

Regarding pads on the Oasys, remember that the MIDI note range is 128 notes. So one or more of the pads could be set to trigger a note that is outside the 88-key range.

Hi,

what about a USB to Midi Converter? Does it supply power to the nanpad?
