Does anyone know of any reviews of the Kaossilator Pro other than the Sonic State one? I'm a bit surprised there haven't been more flying around by now. Or is it just a bit too early still?

From the reviews I've read by users on this forum I wouldn't touch the thing until Korg fixes a ton of short comings

Hmm... The glitch issue and the lack of bouncing does concern me, even the inability to easily control it via MIDI.
But overall, I don't think it has too many issues that would affect me.

Oh, the limitation of 16 beats is also annoying.

It's just a case of weighing the pros and cons for myself really, I suppose.

well lets start a thread. you start and have the job to add all the thingys other users mention.

for start:
pro: 4 loop banks - hell lot of fun - play away from pc
cons: not portable/ no battery mode - no resampling/ bank bouncing
ugly: 16beat limit / 8beat limit below 108,5bpm - effects not for loops

Another con is not being able to load samples whilst performing, all sounds stop playing!

That's crazy, if I were in charge of product development that would be one thing I would want crossing off!

That really does need sorting out!

Whee, I was finally able to order the KOPro. I'll be certainly doing a review here after I get the device and get a chance to play with it, probably next week.

Can't wait :)

I'm still getting to grips with mine, but here's some quick thoughts:

Things I like:
- Drum and percussion sounds and new patterns are excellent (which is a good plus for me)
- Overall synth sounds are good and better for me than the K1 (I am not a keyboard player and don't have any real keyboards)
- Ability to change sound volume when adding to a loop
- Four loop banks
- I am hoping I will like the vocoder effects but haven't tried them yet

Things I am uncertain about:
- The arp slider. Can't really get to grips with this but it is early days, and I am missing the old arp patterns of the K1.
- The KP3 style backlit X-Y pad. I don't have a KP3 and I find the LEDs a bit offputting, especially as they don't equate to note positions on most scales. I would rather have a grid display than flashing lights.

Not so good things:
- The recording "glitch" that restricts the ability to play a sound live and then turn on a precorded loop bank (without ovedubbing some of the live sound onto the loop)
- No ability to erase the last sound you recorded (like the K1)
- I do not find it smooth in operation when switching between banks. I was recording some drums last night using the KPro as a live "sequencer". I had four different drum loops and was manually switching them on and off at the same time to "sequence" between the banks. I found there was a noticeable clunk on the recording as I switched between loops. I guess it could be my timing or the way I had recorded the loops (I am hoping so...).

Despite its faults I really like the KPro. It works best if you approach it from the perspective of what it can do rather than what you want it to - I am having to rethink some of my preconceived ideas. If you want a combination of Kaoss synth, X-Y pad and looper it is IMO a move on from the K1, but I would advise you to keep your K1 as well (I can see me using the two together).

If you have the volume slider for one of the banks all the way down and then you arm it for recording external audio, can you still hear the external audio input?

I think I've just found a solution to not recording to a bank while playing, if you are performing on the XY, and you want to kick in a beat :-

hold down the SHIFT key
this will hold your last note
then kick in the new Bank/or take it out

then carry on with the XY...

Not exactly the most efficient way but it does work without destroying a loop :)

This works for me, thanks for pointing that out. Resolves that problem.

I have been playing about with recording guitar into the KPro through an effects pedal, which works great. You can just keep layering it as you would with KPro sounds. I'm already liking the KPro a lot, this will be great for what I want to do.

Can I ask what setup you have?

I've got an effects pedal, but it's only a cheap one as I'm learning guitar too! It's a zoom, but when I plug my guitar in I'm getting an awful lot of feedback. I think it's my lead more than anything, it's probably about 3m long, if I plug my mic in through the input I don't get anywhere near as much noise/distortion/feedback.

Not sure if length has anything to do with it!?

It's a Zoom G21u. I get a lot of earth hum, but that's the guitar and the pickups (I struggle with that all the time). Not sure what you mean by feedback - do you mean the wailing, amp type feedback or more a hum? If it's earth hum, longer leads can make it worse but playing near power supplies and computers are the biggest factors.

Here's a big pro for the KPro IMO - there's not much to learn. You can just start playing and creating loops straight away. I was thinking of getting an Electribe but I know I wouldn't have time to get to grips with it and really explore its full depths. I actually like the immediacy and relative simplicity of the KPro a lot.
