Ableton and the Kaoss KP3 as an external instrument..
Hello! I've tried searching the net but have not run into anyone having the same problem as I.
I currently have ableton set up as a DJ set, and I want to be able to use the korg KP3 for external FX on a track.
I have set up the proper in's and out's with my soundcard, however when I route the audio into the KP3, the audio sounds very flattened and bass-y.
Everything would work fine if it didn't sound so flattened and bass-y!
I don't think it's a problem with Ableton, because the audio sounds fine otherwise, and when I load up some samples into the KP3, they sound crispy clean.
Any ideas?

Here is a sound file of the BEFORE / AFTER switching from normal audio to the KP3 effect audio.
No effect is being applied at all, it just sounds this way naturally.
test.wav - 1.33MB

I would check everything again, the preferences of the sound card and live, that when you apply the kp3, the audio is not monitored dry or anything, because this problem kind of sounds like there's two places that the audio is coming from and there's slight latency between them, and that affects the frequency response.

im not sure i get your question...do you just want to route audio through the kp3? thats straightforweard enoughazuredeath663 wrote:Hello! I've tried searching the net but have not run into anyone having the same problem as I.

I have double checked everything.bluemind wrote:I would check everything again, the preferences of the sound card and live, that when you apply the kp3, the audio is not monitored dry or anything, because this problem kind of sounds like there's two places that the audio is coming from and there's slight latency between them, and that affects the frequency response.
My latency is pretty low (8ms) with my soundcard. (If it helps any, it is the Native Instruments audio
As you can see in the picture, the sound is only coming out of of the 2-audio track.
The kp3 receives the signal clean, I can verify this by listening to it via the kp3 headphone jack, or when i plug my monitors into the output of the kp3.
my question is why is the kp3 returning a muddy and flattened signal back to ableton?
My I/Os are set up correctly in the software...
thanks for the help guys!

Thank you bluemind! You're exactly right.
I've only been doing this for a year, and honestly don't know too much about the classic stuff.
The sound card I purchased is the first DJ sound card I've ever owned.
There is indeed some software settings I can fiddle with to change it between
-Control Vinyl
-Control CD/Line
-Phono
and currently the input channel i had it plugged into was on the Control Vinyl setting...
So that means if I want to use it for a regular input I need to change it to Control CD/Line?
