Public I.D.?
Hi everyone,
I just got my Korg Oasys 88 home and I'm trying to register on the Korg user site, but it's asking me for the Public ID.
When the unit turns on, it says software version 1.0.1
Hiow do I go about finding the piublic ID for this?
Thanks
AJ

Hi AJ,
Congratulations on your new O. It's a beautiful beast
First of all, to find your public ID go to Global Mode and in the top right corner of the window there is a drop down tab next to where it says Basic Setup. Click that and at the bottom of the list select Display Public ID.
That should show you your ID and also what EXi have been registered.
To get the OS updates and buy EXi keys go to
https://www.korguser.net/oasys/index.asp
and then Sign Up for an account and register the OASYS.
The OS updates include the EXi expansions but are in demo mode until you buy the key. I thnk that is correct as its been a while now.
Also there is a virtual interface of the OASYS Screen that can come in handy to look through things when you are not sitting in front of the OASYS itself.
http://www.korg.com/services/products/o ... l_GUI.html
Also look at
http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/forumdis ... orumid=139
Some very handy info there on Karma and also you can buy the optional Karma OASYS software which is kind of a PC or Mac based editor that also expands the usage of Karma. More info here
http://www.karma-lab.com/karmasoft/ko/ko_main.html
But probably worth doing that later when you have got your head around OASYS first. It can be a bit complicated sometimes but there's loads of info here if you get stuck.
Finally, look at the Resources sticky here
http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=21331
All the links you could need right there and probably where I should have just mentioned to start with
Hope that helps to get you started, and enjoy your new pride and joy

Hi t,
Thanks for your reply and warm welcome.
I went to global mode, and unfortunatly there's nothing there about "Public ID".
I remember reading somewhere in the mountain of info I've been trying to digest these last few days, about in order for Global ID to be displayed, you need a certain OS.
Perhaps because my OS is quite old, this is the reason why the Global ID is not visible?
Here's a couple of screen shots of what the menu looks like from my end.
Thanks for your help
AJ

I would suggest calling your Korg Country Distributor and explain your problem
http://www.korg.co.jp/English/Distributors/
If I recall version 1.1 of the OS introduced the Public ID; therefore you are going to have to get Korg to send you a set of OS v1.1 DVDs.
If your OASYS is used, you might also need assistance registering the OASYS at KorgUser.net (i.e. someone may have already registered the product serial number).
Finally, get Korg to help you determine all the steps you need to take to bring your OASYS up to date -- latest OS, all sounds, etc.

The public ID cannot be displayed on versions below 1.10

Re: Public I.D.?
Mike's correct that the normal OS software page do not display the public ID. However, it can be displayed by a special startup CD, or during system restore with the included 4-CD set.mikemolloyuk wrote:HiCrazyFoo wrote:Hi everyone,

Martin's suggestions are all spot-on. Contact your national Korg distributor; they'll be happy to help you get up and running!

With 1.0.1, the public ID is 14 characters. The the only time this 14-character public ID is useful is to re-authorize the machine for 1.0 or 1.0.1. The public ID mechanism changed with 1.1, delivering a 16-character ID. This 16-character ID is necessary for any current automated activity, such as buying plug-ins or registering on Korguser.net. If you have 1.0.1, you must contact your Korg distributor, as advised above, and they will get you up and running with 1.1 or later. If it is necessary to get your public ID on a 1.0.1 system, they can send you a CD to do so.Kevin Nolan wrote:Thanks Dan for the pointer.
However, the question still stands - how do you find your public ID if at OS 1.0.1?? What's the special start-up CD you mention?
Cheers,
Kevin.

Hi Dan -
Thanks for the reply and info - really appreciated. My 2nd (spare) Oasys is still at 1.0.1 so I will proceed with how you describe when upgrading in the the near future.
I'm also looking to put together a sticky post with useful info for OASYS users so your answer here will serve many in the future - cheers!
Best regards,
Kevin.
