things get discontinued all the time. New stuff is coming. You can always pick up a RADIAS. Discontinuing it doesn't take away it's awesomeness...
Indeed; I may finally be able to get a second one!

It is truly a great and vastly underrated synthesizer though, going far beyond simply 'virtual analog' synthesis. I'm glad for example that it is finally on Vintage Synth Archives.

Also, where is this news that it has been discontinued?

Korg Ship MP-10 Pro Media Player
All-in-one MIDI instrument and dual-song player is in stores now 26-Aug-10
Korg Ship MP-10 Pro Media Player

Image

Korg is now shipping the MP-10 Pro Professional Media Player , which they describe as the perfect musical companion for mobile entertainers, solo keyboardists, singers and amateur musicians. Here's what they have to say about it...

This revolutionary, all-in-one product brings together a reliable and comfortable performance interface with total control over the most essential forms of media required by the modern performer.

As a media player, the MP-10 Pro features two independent media song players; each is able to play both MP3 and MIDI files* directly from the massive 120 GB internal hard drive. The motorized 60 mm crossfader allows creative DJ-style mixing. Songs can be saved into multiple playlists, and the database can be sorted using any criteria. Playlists can be easily imported, or even created "on the fly." The Browser gives an immediate view of everything available in the selected genre. Using the Find function, the MP-10 Pro will carefully search the entire database for the user's favorite song. Once found, the song can be immediately sent to either of the two players.
* .mid, .mid+G, .kar, .xf, .mp3 + lyrics, .mp3+G

As a MIDI instrument, the MP-10 Pro can play MIDI files from the song players. The internal sound engine uses the same EDS (Enhanced Definition Synthesis) found in the Korg Pa500 arranger keyboard and can also be played from an external MIDI device. The front panel offers four assignable performance pads for triggering sound effects and musical phrases. Numerous on-board effects are available for the internal players and MIDI engine. For the entertainer, singer or master of ceremonies, the MP-10 Pro is equipped with a TC Helicon vocal processor offering compression, EQ and delay. A pitch shifter for changing keys, a time stretch function for changing the tempo and an advanced vocal remover allow MP3 files to be customized to suit the entertainer's style.

The MP-10 Pro features Korg's huge color TouchView™ display, offering extreme ease of use. A comprehensive set of connections provides the MP-10 Pro with maximum versatility. In addition to MIDI and USB connections, there are connections for a PC keyboard that make naming and cataloging songs very efficient. Two microphone inputs (one XLR and one _") assure compatibility with nearly any mic. The video outputs (S-Video and Composite) allow karaoke style lyrics, chord changes or even full scores to be displayed on an external video monitor. A headphone-based cue system is provided as well.

Pricing and Availability:
The MP-10 Pro is now available with a U.S. MSRP of $2700.

Korg announces the limited edition SP-170RD, a vibrant red color option for the SP-170 Digital Piano, further expanding the striking visual style of this popular model.

Korg_SP170RD.jpg

Image

The most portable and affordable piano Korg has ever developed, the SP-170 does not cut corners on delivering a great piano playing experience. Its streamlined design reveals no visible controls, providing an elegant and inviting presentation that focuses on what is most important in a piano – sound and feel.

The SP-170 features a duo of concert grand piano sounds, each recorded with meticulous care. Numerous velocity layers are used to capture nuances of playing dynamics, allowing the instrument to respond expressively to every touch. Eight additional highly-accurate sounds complete the palette of keyboard tones: Electric Piano (x2), Harpsichord, Clav, Vibraphone, Pipe Organ, Electric (Drawbar) Organ and Strings. Selectable Reverb and Chorus effects add warmth and spaciousness to the sound. While the SP-170 never requires tuning, it offers adjustable tuning that can be matched to other instruments, and it can also be transposed into any musical key.

As with every Korg SP digital piano model, the SP-170 features a full 88-note piano-style keyboard; three touch curves match the key response to any playing style. The newly-developed, Natural Weighted Hammer Action (NH) faithfully reproduces the touch and graduated weight of acoustic piano keys, while keeping the unit’s weight down to a mere 26 pounds.

Completely self-contained, the SP-170 includes a built-in sound system with a pair of full-range oval speakers housed in an internal bass-reflex cabinet, resulting in a well-defined, robust and dynamic sound.

Dual headphone outputs allow for private practice plus parent/child or student/teacher use. These outputs also enable connection to recording equipment or an external amplifier. A matching music rest and sustain pedal are both included, and an optional color-matched stand is available.

For the student or hobbyist, the SP-170 can be used as the master keyboard (input device) for computer music software via the MIDI output. The power switch and volume knob are located on the back panel; all other operations are quickly performed using the keyboard itself.

The SP-170 will be available November 2010 with a retail price of $699.00. An optional matching wooden stand will be available with a retail price of $125.00.

Korg Unveils microKEY USB Powered Keyboard/Controller

Image

Korg unveils its new microKEY USB Powered Keyboard and MIDI Controller. For computer-based musicians on a budget seeking portability and power without sacrificing keyboard feel and function, the microKEY is an ideal way to create a compact and customized MIDI command center. Unlike its competitors, the microKEY features a built-in two-port hub to connect other controllers, computer peripherals or Korg nanoSERIES controllers for added flexibility and control of all the users’ software. Free editing software and a number of included software bundle licenses and discount coupons make the microKEY even more cost effective.

Korg_microKEY.jpg

The microKEY features 37 velocity-sensing mini keys, using the same Natural Touch keybed found on the Korg microKORG XL and microSTATION. This keybed has been designed with careful attention to the touch and feel: the proportions of the black keys and white “waterfall” keys have been adjusted for optimal playability, and the key touch makes it easy to play chords, glissandos and rapid-fire phrases. The microKEY accurately conveys the dynamics of the user’s performance to any software package.

The Octave Shift buttons extend the range of the microKEY by four octaves in either direction – up or down. The Key Transpose function allows users to play in any key instantly. Used together, these two features provide access to the entire MIDI note range. For adding expression to users’ performance, the microKEY is also equipped with both a Pitch Bend wheel and a Modulation wheel.

The microKEY serves double-duty as a USB hub. The two USB ports (Type A) allow users to expand their custom control center by adding on a Korg nanoPAD or nanoKONTROL – or any other USB device. The microKEY is compatible with Mac™ OSX 10.4 or later, along with Windows XP SP3 (32-bit), Windows Vista SP2 (32-bit, 64-bit) and Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit).

Users can download the free “Korg KONTROL Editor” software, available from the Korg website, and customize the microKEY for their production or performance system. With the editor software, users can set the keyboard to respond to one of eight distinct velocity curves, or set a fixed velocity value. In addition, the range of the modulation wheel can be customized by setting minimum and maximum control change values.

Korg_microKEY_withLaptop.jpg

Weighing only 2.21 pounds, measuring (W x D x H): 22.24" x 5.47" x 2.13" and running on USB power, the microKEY is well suited for the on-the-go laptop musician as well.

The microKEY ships with the following software licenses and discount coupons so users can start making music right away:

1. A license to download the “M1 Le,” a limited edition of Korg’s M1 software synthesizer (included in the Korg Legacy Collection – Digital Edition) that brings to users’ computers the sounds of the ground-breaking M1 Music Workstation. Users may also choose to upgrade to the “M1 software synthesizer,” “Wavestation v1.6 software synthesizer,” or “MDE-X v1.2 multi-effect plug-in” bundles.

2. A license to download Toontrack’s software drum sound module “EZdrummer® Lite,” giving users access to numerous high-quality drum sounds. Visit www.toontrack.com for details.

Image

3. A discount coupon for Ableton’s “Live,” “Live Suite,” and “Live LE” DAW software, widely popular for its sophisticated functionality. For details on this software, please refer to www.ableton.com or www.h-resolution.com.

4. A license for “Lounge Lizard Session,” the physical modeling sound module from Applied Acoustics Systems, famed for its richly expressive electric piano sounds. For details on this software, please visitwww.minet.jp/aas/lounge-lizard-session.

The Korg microKEY keyboard and MIDI controller will be available November 2010 with U.S. MSRP TBD.

Korg Introduces Wavedrum Black

Limited edition black color adds extra style to this acclaimed Dynamic Percussion Synthesizer —

Korg’s award-winning Wavedrum Dynamic Percussion Synthesizer has drawn international praise for its organic interface, realism, comprehensive arsenal of percussion sounds spanning the globe, and innovative synth sounds. Now the Wavedrum is available in a limited edition black color with a solid black metallic rim and an exclusive BLACK SUEDE™ Remo drum head – projecting a different vibe than the aura of the original silver.

The Korg Wavedrum Black will be available in November 2010, with U.S. MSRP TBD.

About the Korg Wavedrum

The original Korg Wavedrum was introduced to the music world back in 1994. This legendary musical instrument was instantly famous for its innovative design, performance possibilities and unique sounds. Since its introduction in 2009, Korg has been pleased to see the success of the affordable, next-generation Wavedrum Digital Percussion Synthesizer.

Wavedrum can be used as a stand-alone percussion instrument, or integrated into an existing drum kit or percussion rig. Unlike digital trigger-based systems, Wavedrum uses a real drum head as the playing surface, providing an authentic and familiar feel. This allows the performer to employ sticks, brushes, mallets and/or traditional hand-drum techniques (mute, slap, bend, etc.) to play with comfort and confidence. In addition to drummers/percussionists, vocalists, DJs, and many other entertainers and musicians can take advantage of the versatility and playability of the Korg Wavedrum.

There are actually two playing surfaces on Wavedrum: the head and the rim. Under the head is an audio transducer, similar to a microphone. This transducer drives Wavedrum’s DSP and PCM sound engines, providing a far more expressive and natural playing experience than trigger-based systems that rely on PCM playback alone. The rim is outfitted with different-sized raised patterns on the left and right sides. In addition to using the rim as a traditional playing surface, rubbing a stick or mallet over these raised patterns can create interesting percussion effects, similar to an afro-cuban güiro, for example.

By combining 36 advanced DSP (Digital Signal Processing) synthesis algorithms with 200 PCM samples (100 for the head; 100 for the rim), Wavedrum provides a wide palette of sounds, ranging from traditional drum and percussion instruments to complex synthetic tones and sound effects. In addition to the ability to create new and unusual sounds, Wavedrum also re-creates a vast array of percussion instruments from around the planet, from familiar cajons, congas, and tablas to the rare and exotic. These include the udo, a clay pod percussion instrument; the jegog, a bamboo gamelan marimba from the island of Bali; a talking drum from Africa; gongs, and many others. Wavedrum can even reproduce stringed instruments such as the sitar, koto, and berimbau. This allows a single Wavedrum to replace what would have been a room full of instruments, sure to be a welcome addition to crowded stages, theatre/show pits, project studios and classrooms.

100 preset programs and 100 user programs are stored in memory, with 12 favorites available for instant access. Reverb and Delay effects add depth and character to the sound.

Unlimited recording tracks = limitless possibilities
SOUND on SOUND is a handy-sized multitrack recorder that lets you play back your song while continuing to overdub more parts. You can overdub as many times as you like, without having to worry about running out of tracks. Pick a rhythm, chop out some guitar chords, lay down a vocal, add some harmonies, play a solo – or two, or three or fifty! With the SOS, the possibilities are endless. Used as a sketchpad, SOUND on SOUND allows you to preserve all of your musical ideas, from complex themes to inspired snippets and phrases.

Each overdub is saved individually
SOS saves each of your overdubs separately. These track files are saved as individual WAV files. This allows each overdub to be loaded directly into nearly any DAW software program as an individual track. The individual files are BWF (Broadcast Wave Format) compliant, meaning they contain timing information. So if you had overdubbed a track in the middle of the song, it will automatically align correctly in a BWF-supported DAW. You can also use the Finalize operation to automatically time-align each overdub track. SOUND on SOUND records at 44.1 kHz/16-bit resolution, and recordings are saved onto a convenient and reliable microSD or microSDHC card.

Advanced recording functions

* Unlimited undo/redo*
SOUND on SOUND allows an unlimited number of undo/redo operations. This is great when you are recording alternate takes of a guitar solo, for example. You can set the SOS to keep all of the "undone" recordings. This allows you to move all of your recorded tracks – even undone tracks – to a computer-based DAW system, and then choose the best take.

*Limited by the capacity of the installed microSD/SDHC card.
* Loop recording
The A/B Loop function can repeatedly play back a specified section of the song – a great way to practice your instrument or build up your song. In addition, you can even record while looping, creating results similar to a looper effect.

* Sound Stretch
This powerful feature allows you to change the playback speed without affecting the pitch. Sound Stretch can be used during playback or during recording. You can record a difficult passage at a slow speed and then return playback to normal speed. Likewise, you can slow down the entire sound during playback. The playback speed can be set anywhere from 25% to 150% of the original speed.

100 powerful effects
Powered by Korg's proprietary "REMS" modeling technology, the SOS provides 100 effect choices, including effects for electric guitar (such as amp modeling), acoustic guitar, vocals, or any instrument. The effect can be applied as you record, or added to a previously recorded track. In the Master position, the effect can be applied to the entire song. The effects are divided into Guitar, Mic, Master and Touch. This last category allows effects to be controlled in real time, using the touchscreen display.

[GTR] 36 types of modeled guitar & bass effects

[MIC] 25 effects designed for acoustic sources using a microphone – vocals, acoustic guitar, etc.

[MST] 32 Master Effects, suitable for adding to a recorded song, or when recording a line input source (such as an external MP3 player)

[TCH] 7 Touch Effects, controllable in real-time using the display

On-board rhythms
The rhythm function is convenient when recording your phrases and ideas. It can be used as a tempo guide or to create a rhythm backing. Fifty rhythms (each with four variations) cover a broad range of styles. Simply choose a pattern and set the tempo. The touch screen allows you to select one of four variations to change the complexity of the pattern

Korg tuner technology
Now you can always be in tune when you record. Guitar, Bass, and Chromatic digital tuners are built in to the SOUND on SOUND. The calibration range is adjustable from 435 Hz to 445 Hz.

High-quality stereo mic / Internal monitor speaker
A high-quality stereo condenser mic is securely mounted inside the SOUND on SOUND, providing a broad frequency response that realistically captures the sound of acoustic instruments. You can adjust the Tone, Low Cut, and Noise Gate settings of the input sound. The input level can be set manually or automatically. An external microphone jack is also provided. The dedicated guitar input lets you connect your guitar directly to the SOS. A line input for an external audio device is also provided. The monitor speaker lets you review your recording on the spot, without requiring any additional equipment.

Easy-to-use modern design
SOUND on SOUND features a wedge shaped design that's easy to use whether held in your hand or placed on a desk. All the buttons are laid out on the top surface for intuitive operation. The innovative display provides a clear indication of the SOUND on SOUND's current functions and settings. The touchscreen display allows realtime access to song playback position, level adjustment, effect parameters, and rhythm patterns simply by touching your fingertip directly to the screen.

Battery powered portability
SOUND on SOUND can operate for up to ten hours using two AA alkaline batteries. It can also be used with an AC adaptor (sold separately).

KORG AUDIO UTILITY downloadable software
The Korg Audio Utility format conversion and audio CD creation software can be downloaded for free from the Korg website, and used free of charge. This software provides convenient data management of your recorded songs. With it, you can perform simple editing of the audio data, convert between audio formats, and even create audio CDs.
