how do I set this up right? I've read on the forums a bit bout this
but I can never nail it right. What instrument/synth is a good preset to start with? I get that I have to have the Portamento pretty high and the Arp setting to Reverse (right?)

i do this all the time
i have it set to ribbon being gate time and fader being pitch usually, but its just because for drumm rolls its easir to have time on the ribbon instead of the pad(for me)

i use my tribe to control my nord micro, bu twhen i used to do it in the ESX itself i used the default saw, added a bit of filter action and played with the portamento time all the time(1 hand ribbon plus fader, other hand changing porta time and tweaking lfo/filter with pinky (look any of my ustream sets on youtube, i "solo" that way 5-10 times in every one)
