mini KP output level...
I have recently acquired a mini KP and I have just running my Kaossilator through it but the volume was much quieter than I expected... So I took out the mini KP, which caused the volume to return to normal. How come the mini KP cuts out so much volume? The batteries are new and there was no effect on.
Maybe its size is not the only reason for its name...

I've noticed this and I think it is mainly down to optimisation for battery power
It seems to output somewhere around -10dB, and its input seems to be limited there too, in that if I directly connect the output from my keyboard to it at full volume it will always clip. Instead I have to run it through my mixer and use the aux bus level which I have taped down at -10dB to stop it clipping the input, then it comes back through a stereo channel strip with the fader taped down at +10dB to bring it back up to level. I know, it sounds stupid, but its the only way I could get it to match the rest of my gear in insert mode.
So there is definitely something odd about it.

Yes.Mr36 wrote:It's using direct mode, which it should be, shouldn't it? Send is for send and return connection, isn't it?
Although yes, in send mode running through a mixer the dry signal wouldn't be affected, so I can see how many people might not notice this situation. You'd rarely actually expect a 50:50 mix level.
Having said that, I never understood the usefulness of send mode except on reverb, delay, chorus etc programs.
for example distortion and especially the filters should work a lot better as 100% wet (direct) effects which is usually difficult to achieve with a mixer's FX send.

I generally agree - but I've been surprised how often that this can be interesting and useful too.X-Trade wrote:Yes.Mr36 wrote:It's using direct mode, which it should be, shouldn't it? Send is for send and return connection, isn't it?

Jamie, the other fellow in dreamSTATE, always has a nasty filter available on a send
and adds strong moving layers to his sounds by bringing in and manipulating it.
