Should I send my fast track pro to m-audio for a 'repair'

I'd have to pay shipping.
Basically, my fast track pro drops out a lot. After a fresh driver install, it won't happen for 2-3 days. Then, it starts happening every 2 minutes, every minute, every 2 seconds finally.
We've tried a variety of solution to fix it, such as different USB ports, different drivers, using it with a different computer.... nothing.
However, I don't believe it's a problem with just my unit. Through research, it seems to be a problem with all FTPs... and m-audio has been silently avoiding doing anything for years.

Should I even bother sending it to them, knowing that it's not a problem with my unit but rather all units? Should I give them an ultimatum to fix my $200 problem that they obviously know is their fault?
I can't do the homemade fix on the first link as I don't have a soldering iron, and if I get a powered USB port M-audio better reimburse me...
