My guess is that what you did wrong was soldering it yourself. :3
Current: MS-20 Mini, Minilogue, SY77
Past: Korg R3, Volca Bass, X50, Mg Slim Phatty, Rld Gaia SH-01, Yamaha TX81Z

I am looking at the same problem. I took it to my electronics/soldering friend and he sugessted removing some of the coating around the pad with a razor to get some fresh copper to get the solder to attach to.
He said if I don't do this I will have the same problem you are describing. I will try to let you know how it works. I'm replacing some switches while I am under the hood too.

check for any traces of solder bridging the live and ground (earth) terminals.......you might be shorting it.
