So i had an accident and the glass on the lcd is cracked, and it looks all blobby now, the light still comes on, it just doesn't work now. The unit powers on and makes sounds but the touch screen and lcd is cracked. back light still works.

I bought this:

And I took this apart, but it looks like i have to take the keyboard bed out to get the touch screen off. Is this hard to do?

I've done this lots and I'm not a technician on any level. However, this is not for the guy who is in a hurry or one that hates detail oriented stuff. Leave this to a pro if you are not a patient person!

Here's what I do: (READ ALL OF THIS BE4 PROCEEDING)

1) Get your digital camera. If you don't have one- borrow one. It seriously will bail your butt out of trouble when (not if) you get there! lol.

2) Get a container good to hold screws. (You know- with multiple compartments. If you don't have such a thing get a handful of sandwich bags.) Be VERY systematic about what you are doing and take all the screw from "one layer" of what you are removing and place them in their own little compartment (or baggie). LABEL THEM!! (read back and forward of this) LABEL THEM!!

3) Are you taking pictures EVERY step of the way?

4) Do NOT use a magnetic screw driver!! And do NOT use an electric screw driver. It makes it way to easy to go fast and if you are in a hurry then you are the wrong guy for this job! Work slow and deliberate and PAY ATTENTION to what is what and what is where. Are you still taking pictures?

5) You will have to remove about every component to get to your display. It is an arduous and painstaking task but it really is not that big of a deal. As I said, I'm not a tech. I'm just some dummy in his living room changing out his 01/W and SY99 backlights and such. Just walk into this with a very organized frame of mind and be systematic. And don't pass up a single "Kodak moment."

This is important: When you are pulling the various connectors apart it is best to use a prying tool. Pry one side up SLIGHTLY and then the other and then back to the other. The pins on the male side may bend easily and if you man-handle the connectors they are subject to breaking. Also, when you are taking pics make sure they are hi-res.

I would be real interested in your opinion of the new display. Like; is it brighter than the stock disply and is it the same color?

I have taken it apart a couple of times to see if could do the job the realized i would have to take the keybaord bed out and saw that the keybaord bed was connected to everything.

What I am worried about is that the glass is shattered underneath, and when i take this out, will glass and lcd juice run every where, or is this touch display one thing, and held together, there is this plastic over the glass that is holding the glass in, is this part of the display?

This is what I am worried about most, and yes, i have taken pictures of everything i have messed with. This is a beast, i though the jupiter 8 was a beast, its worse than this, but this is a beast too. wow...

Man from looking at the service manual this is going to suck, if i dont take out the lcd with the keyboard facing upright, i think i am going to have a problem with the broken glass and lcd s**t, i fear its not healthy to touch or get on me, i might just throw this thing away now if it is a health hazard.

well before i even bother, i just spent 250 on the screen, and the unit works, all keys, after touch, disk drive, everything, moss board. its in good shape, only a few marks, nothing major.

i need a controller fast, i think i just want a z1 after all i have the tr rack any way..

um i might even go down to 375, 250. thats as low as i can go, i need to get a new synth/controller.

I fixed it, and it works, yay.. kind of hard, kind of not...

Well done...especially given that if you aren't careful you can kinda screw things up. Sounds like you did great. Hey, what is your take on the new display? Is it brighter than the old one? Does it have that same yellowish hue as the stock Trinity display or is it blue or something else. Just curious.
