Hey all,

First of all, I've looked EVERYWHERE to find the answer, but none of them worked/was the same as my question.

Ok so I got my KP3 today (which looks gorgeous) and when I turn it on the lights move and all.. (my computer recognizes it too) but I can't get it to work!

I opened ableton and tried all settings, but none work.
Tried connecting my kp3 with USB and Midi but none of them work!

I'm good with software but pretty much a noob when it comes to hardware so dont blame me!

All help apreciated!! :D

what do you mean by "get it to work" ?

what do you expect it to do, and what are you trying?

So do you have the audio cable from your computer going out and into the KP3 input, and then another audio cable going out from the KP3 back into your sound card?

AFAIK there isnt any audio being transferred through the USB like an AUX SEND/RETURN. AFAIK you run analogue into the KP3 and then Analogue comes out.

The USB is for transferring data to your SD card, or controlling the KP3 with MIDI.
Or mabey im completely wrong with how Im seeing this.

Thanks for the fast reply!

There are no audio cables.. I thought it would work the same as my Axiom (just an usb cable)

what kind of cable do I need? will MIDI cables work?
or do I need specific audio cables or something?

midi cables does NOT send audio, so no, you can't use midi cables

those crazy cats at Korg explained how to hook it up (with pictures!) on pages 8 and 9 of the manual

if turning 8 pages is too much like hard work, the Easy Start guide also explains it on page 3: http://www.korg.co.uk/downloads/kp3/sup ... yStart.pdf

the Axiom is a midi controller, it doesn't generate or process audio, so you don't need audio cables. it generates midi data, so you use midi cables (or send midi over usb)

the KP3 can also send and receive midi, but to apply effects to audio you need it to receive and send audio

Yeah I've read the manual thoroughly but I don't have a mixer so it doesn't make sense to me.

I want to connect my KP3 to my computer so I can use it with Ableton.

do that

ableton is your mixer

do you own a sound card like something external?

It will need both a stereo input and stereo output.

if you just want to hear your stuff ... get a 1/8th trs to rca plug... have your computer send sound from the headphone jack to the kp3... put headphones on KP3. But obviosly this is just a hack and not solution until you get a mixer with soundcard or a soundcard seperate.

If you dont care about the fx processing of the kp3 and just want it as a midi only controller so you can control the fx in ableton.. you should be able to do that already. If you dont know how to use ableton or midi, then read the manual or WIKIPEDIA on how to remap external MIDI controllers to software.

This is about everything I can think of.

So what kind of cables would I need for this?

I have a Soundblaster Audigy SE soundcard.

based on your sound card..

something like this

http://www.sweetwater.com/images/items/ ... xlarge.jpg

you would need two of these

1 to go out from sound card to KP3 (Line in)
1 to go from KP3 (line out)to sound card

Ok I just took all the cables I could find and tried them all

I have one cable with a red and white plug on both sides, figured it would work, but it didnt.

I have some more with 3 plugs on each side (red, blue, green)
those dont work either..

my soundcard is a creative soundblaster x-fi xtreme audio so not the one I mentioned before sorry

I made some pics:

http://i33.tinypic.com/nn4h38.jpg

I am probably doing something VERY wrong because my soundcard is fairly new and I only bought my kp3 today..

where should I put the cables in the last picture? (the white and red one)
do I need 2 or 4 cables?
*edit: so I need 4 cables (2 that go from line in L and R to my pc and 2 that go from line out L and R to my pc?)

Thought this was going to be a plug and play thing but apparently it isnt

You should get 1/84h inch balanced cables.. 2 of them. Balanced should help clear up any possible static and also get 2 1/4th" -> 1/8th inch adaptors. This should let you do exactly as you wanted originally :] using a firewire cable is more for data transfer and midi.

so where would i put those cables you mentioned?
do they work with my soundcard?

*edit: went to have a look at my soundcard again and these are the things that are on and what they say:

pink: mic
green: L-out
blue: L-in
grey: SS-out
orange: CS-out
black: RS-out

in the green one is the cable to my speakers so when I pull that out I hear nothing at all.
