Hi folks. Ive been wreckn my head for a while now trying to link my Korg N1 to my laptop. the korg is attachd to my M-Audio fast track pro which in turn is linkd to the computor. Though I can see from level meters tha a signal is reaching the program ( cubase 2.2 ) I am gettn no sound from my computor. Truth is I am a bass player and have little experience of either midi systems or home recording, in fact no experience at all but I am trying to learn so any help I can receive with my woes will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. S

okay - need some more information -
what do you have plugged into what? you said a signal is definitely reaching your computer; is it a MIDI signal or an Audio Signal?
What you will want is MIDI IN from the N1 to be plugged into the MIDI OUT on your MIDI port (Fast Track Pro). and then the MIDI OUT on the N1 to be plugged into the MIDI IN of your MIDI Port. MIDI does not carry a sound, it is just little 1's and 0's that tell your computer what note the N1 just played and for how long, how hard, etc.
Then, you'll want to take a cable that has a 1/8" stereo (TRS) plug on one end, and two 1/4" mono (TS) plugs on the other end (you can get these at your local electronics store) and use it to plug your N1 Audio L/R outs into the Line In jack on your laptop. This is the actual sound created by the N1 that can be heard through your laptop speakers, or recorded by cubase.
Gargamel thanks

Good mornin dude, at least its mornin hear. thanks for your reply and advice. A fella Coolo has told me of a similar soloution to my problem by connecting an audio jack lead from the output of the keyboard to the second audio in on the front panel of my sound card. this soloution worked well and I now have actual sounds from my korg.
Having read your posting however my mind has turned to matters that troubled me concerning this arrangement, bein a tad lazy i was concerned about that audio in bein permenantly hooked up for keyboard only and secondly I am not sure about the mono/stereo implications of the current setup.
So to that effect I shall be looking into the arrangement you set out and giving it a blast. I initially intended using the front panel inputs of my sound card for instrument and mic leaving the rear inputs for keyboard. this arrangement should provide for that and I sincerely offer my thanks. I do hope Coolo is not offended as his advice gave me access to my korg and allowed me to lay down the tracks for my first comp and for that I am most thankful.
I am a total virgin to recording and each piece of advice I recieve is thoroughly welcomed and I gotta say I am so impressed by this forum. Glad I joined.
I have a lot of other questions needing answers and I really cant wait to get workin. again thank you Gargamel and Coolo.
