Dear forum moderators:
Since the "Promote Your Music Online" forum on this site is too plebeian for Mr. Sidak, and since the Oasys is officially dead, could you please rename this the "jgsidak" forum to avoid further confusion regarding its content?
Thank you.

Jim and Sharp - while I broadly agree with where you're coming from, in fairness to Greg - I am 100% convinced he is a descent, talented musician just enthusing about his music here because we gave honest and real feedback (and are impressed with a heck of a lot of his music). I don't believe Greg is trying to exploit this forum for publicity (the last people you should look for publicity is from other musicians anyway - they always want your music for free!!
) - even if, Greg, you did post too many track without sharing some of your OASYS insights - I did 'gently warn' you about that (cause I could see this thread coming!!).
But I think we have to allow music to be posted here for comment - once not over done - and IMO with a little real dialogue about the OASYS techniques used.
But to be fair to Greg I think there are only honest intentions in sharing his (formidable) creativity.
Kevin.

If I wrote Oasys-only songs I wouldn't hesitate to post them in this section of the forum. I enjoy listenting to what's possible on "my" machine. Of course it's a question of quantity as well: each day 2 songs would be too much. But once in a while - hey, that's very ok for me and I'm glad I got the info.
I've no problem with someone posting the odd tune in this section from time to time as I'd have more interest in hearing a song played on an OASYS than any other KORG keyboard.
I've been listening and enjoying his songs too, it's good stuff. Thumbs up from me all the way..!!!!
I did have to move 9 threads though, so it's not as if I'm being too strict here.
Regards
Sharp.

I tend to agree with Sharp - however, instead of populating the OASYS area with endless composition threads, members should be encouraged to have one thread - 'Cello's compositions' for example, and just add a new post when a new piece is available.
That way it's obvious what's in the thread and leaves plenty room for all the other questions/comments etc about the OASYS.

I've just seen what happened.
I don't know if Greg broke some forum rules or not but practically it's not important since his posts at least brought some life again to this unique and good place. I don't know Mr. Strider, but I have to say it doesn't seem to be a polite action at all. (I hope he was joking. I hope Sharp asked/informed Greg personally before he moved the posts.)
I would post any news - yes, including my music - that is related to my OASYS here first. When I'm interested in others' works *created with the OASYS* I would like to find them also here - without following the other thread (Promote Your Music Online).
Cello's idea is meaningful: Would it be possible to start a personal thread for OASYS users? Called like: "Akos Janca's music" or "compositions" or even better: "news"? Then all information that is related to this user and somehow to his OASYS could be published there.
P.S. Dear Mr. Professor, take it easy.
Please do continue sharing your music and thoughts. Thank you.

My 2 cents.
Going on about it make it look like the guy got his ass kicked for breaking rules when that's not the case at all.
In my opinion this thread is now actually alienating "jgsidak" and making matters worse. Read my posts above. I have no problem with someone posting a song in this section from time to time at all and I was enjoying his music.
As for moving posts, I do that every single day and it's no big deal at all. So lets not go on about it because it make it look like "jgsidak" was misbehaving or doing something very wrong when this is not the case at all.

Sharp.

Let the Spankings Continue
Promote Your Music Online
In this section you can promote your music by allowing others to get a listen to your work. Receive feedback and comments from other members.
Moderators Sharp, chordial
"My very bestest new song! Tell me how yummy I am!" goes here.
Korg Oasys
Discussion relating to the Korg Oasys Workstation.
Moderators Sharp, chordial
"Listen to this cool Oasys sound and here's how I made it!" or all manner of technical/aesthetic discussion concerning the Oasys goes here.
Is violation of these rather obvious delineations a bad, bad thing? No, of course not. Forum discussions will neither doom nor save the planet. However, a pattern of posting to the wrong forum (wrong, as indicated by the forum's own descriptions) is a commonly recognized form of forum abuse. Such posts are routinely moved in most well-moderated forums, such as this one. Especially when such posts begin to constitute a majority of the new material appearing in the forum.
Was my remark rude? Maybe a little, but no more so than jgsidak's refusal to use the "Promote Your Music Online" forum, which seems to exist specifically to accommodate his intentions. Also, the remark was at least a little bit funny. Especially if you consider that one of Mr. Sidak's albums (available for download on his very attractive website) is entitled "The Common Man". (I know English is a second, or even tertiary, language for some forum members. The joke revolves around my use of the word "plebeian", which means "pertaining to the common people".)
Mr. Janca, your unwillingness to follow the work of your fellow musicians on the appropriate forum confounds me. Are you frightened of leaving this familiar oasys and discovering new fora? Perhaps your little mousey finger gets tired from all the clicks it requires...
Yes. I confess. I'm a bad, bad man. Let the spankings continue.

Calm, Mr Strider, Calm!
I think your repost is a tad strident (using your name as the derivative
)
Perhaps you might consider that he's never scrolled down to the bottom of the page... ? He's sees 'OASYS' at the top of the page and that's what he's looking for. He certainly shouldn't be blamed for anything like breaking forum rules (in my view - please note that I am not a moderator here).
Good for him for putting his music online! Whether it's one's cup of tea or not, and with around 3000 OASYS' out there, he's one of the few that actually allows people to hear what he is achieving with the instrument on this forum - which may encourage others (isn't what this forum is about? Encouragement, support and knowledge sharing?).
I think Sharp was simply trying to underscore that the point has been made (ie existing structure of forums) and that it is moderated effectively. It must be a complete pain having to remove the many spam posts for unlocked iPhones and ban all the posters, who simply re-register and do it all again!
You made a point, it was responded to - no need to stir it up further. And I guess if you don't like it...
But this forum needs contributions to be a success (which it is) and would be a shame if people didn't feel their contributions were welcome (which they are).
Let's just keep it positive though, eh?
Edited to say - just been to your website and listened to what I presume is your music - M1, deepwater horizon from sick karma; for what it's worth I liked
Very good classical undertones interpreted in a contemporary way. Very effective.

Hey guys.
Sharp provided some meaningful clarification on this matter on two important points. 1) "Going on about it make it look like the guy got his ass kicked for breaking rules when that's not the case at all." Sharp moderates this tiny place in the World Wide Web universe so it IS his call! Period. He took action- the very action he deemed appropriate. 2) "As for moving posts, I do that every single day and it's no big deal at all." So, if moving posts (which actually takes some time and effort) is "no big deal" to the moderator of a sizeable forum then could it really be said to be a difficult thing, or a waste if time, or even an aggrevation to Stryder (and/or like-minded ones) to just ignore the post in question and its resulting thread? I mean, he (Stryder) doesn't actually have to open a post if he suspects that it may contain such objectionable time wasting noise as music made on an Oasys, does he?
Then again, is there a valid point to the issue Stryder raised? Yes, it is valid! But is posting in the wrong place a criminal act? Only if the forum moderator says so. Is it irritating to see such misdirected posts here in this section of the forum? Gosh, I don't know- I'm not aggrevated. It certainly takes far less time to look past a post placed in the "wrong" section than for Sharp to move things around in here....and he does that without complaint.
As for Mr. Sidak, I wonder if he feels embarrassed by all this. I sure hope not. I don't think he did anything wrong at all. I also don't think that Stryder did anything wrong by raising this issue. What he did wrong, in my worthless opinion was become arrogant and condecsending in making his point. Yes, Stryder, we are aware that you have risen above us all intellectually because most of us feeble-minded mental midgets must crack open the pages of our dusty dictionaries to try and comprehend the unabridged articulations of your well crafted insults. But really, if you think about it, all of this from you... [[["Was my remark rude? ...accomplishes something similar to what the very basis of your contention is: That something unrelated to the functional or technical issues of the Oasys is being posted in THIS section of the forum. Wouldn't it be fair to say that the remarks that you use to belittle others (hence, elevating yourself) should be posted in an area of this forum that is dedicated to berating those that are beneath you? And if that section does not exist then perhaps you might petition Sharp for such a spot for you to call your very own.
When Mr. Sidak's songs were moved to another section by Sharp I had to feel a little guilt because I have also posted my music where more people would see it. I wasn't trying to step on toes by doing so, and I am aware that there is a "Promote Your Music Online" section. But THAT section is waaaaaaaaayyy down there and all of you people are waaaaaaaayyy up here. And I want to be sure you all don't miss my music. Is that selfish and self-centered of me? Maybe, but I wasn't thinking like that. I'm just excited that my music and I survived a tragic marriage and an episode of alcohol abuse that could kill a large mammal. My first CD is 18 years in the making and includes my 1st copy righted song from 1979. And I want you all to hear it. Not because I'm any good. I actually suck with only 6 months of piano lessons at age 12 under my belt. I'm not being humble, I'm being honest. But my finished product sounds okay. Mr. Sidak's music sounds far better than mine and I am glad he posted it "up top" or I might not have ever discovered it. I might take advantage of Sharp's 'less-than-rigid' enforcement of the rules when stating, "I have no problem with someone posting a song in this section from time to time at all and I was enjoying his music." With that in mind, I believe I will post another one of my songs in the wrong section-- just for you! By all means, please do not listen to it. I would be far more satisfied if you would simply insult me.
...Rant over.
Cheers every1.

Call me terrible, but I've never checked out that other part of the forum, nor any of the "post your music here" threads on HC and Gearslutz. Too much to wade through. Heck, I don't even listen to the radio. Like a lot of others, I'm more interested in gear specific stuff.
That said, I think Sharp is being quite fair. I can see how 11 threads can push a lot of other subjects off the board, so I think it would be good to either post once in a while (which is still okay) or consolidate to one thread when you want to post a bunch. After all, I like posting songs here, too!
I really do like catching the occasional oddity, like Dan's magnificent SPIDERWOMAN song. I'm listening to it for the umpteenth time, right now.

So far I did not really want to contribute to this thread. But now, that Mike somehow hit the point for me I agree to his suggestion, as well to the fact that I like posting songs here, too.Mike Conway wrote:... or consolidate to one thread when you want to post a bunch. Well, I'm definitely interested in hearing what other users are up to musically and especially if it involves the OASYS. However, there's got to be, IMO, a bit of balance - it can't be a sounding board / test ground for your music output in there isn't a bit of two way dialogue on it. With genuine respect to Greg, I felt he was posting too many songs while also saying little about his usage of the OASYS in particular.
I'd be delighted to listen / comment on 100 tracks by any artist, but it's got to be more than just listening to the music for the sake of it on this forum surely? Apart from learning technical know-how - even if on an artistic level would like to learn something about the creator's view, concept, motivation and so on to give some context to what I’m listening to an to what makes the artist tick - and how the OASYS played a part in that. Surely that's the purpose of a forum?
In fairness to Greg, you have a very intriguing view on politics, history and nationality that’s in your music for sure (and adds significantly to the intrigue of you as an artist) – and Greg has always posted music here in good faith. But IMO sharing motivation and know-how on this forum has to be part of the experience.
Kevin.

There are very few OASYS composers who want to share their works on this forum. I don't care even if they post many songs - we don't have much other interesting topics these days, do we - it's good for the composer, good for other fellow users, does no harm to the forum.
(Reading this correspondence, Mr. Strider, it seems only you had a problem with this for some strange reason. IMHO your posts are close to be called "offensive". I hope it's temporal.)
If we put away these rare songs in another topic mixed with other works this will make it harder to find them. Eventually, they will be buried there and other OASYS users - who don't want or can't watch that thread all the time - will not listen to them, not enjoy them, not respond to them and not be influenced by them. THIS IS what is against this forum's spirit.
Yes, we could post our OASYS related work in the PYMO thread and also mention it here - but this requires a double post for the same information. Would it be better?
The best solution seems to be starting a personal topic for each OASYS composer here and posting the new songs always in there.
