Cubase and the microStation

I've compiled a patch file for Cubase which can be downloaded here.

http://www.englishhermit.net/microstation.html

To use the microSTATION as a multi-timbral instrument, there are few things that need to be set up.

1. Put the microSTATION into SEQ mode.

2. Use the utility button on the editor to initialise the microSTATION to GM with percusasion on channel 10 and piano on other channels.

3. Click Track Param Tab and then the MIDI/OSC page. Ensure the status for each channel is set to BTH allowing both internal and external MIDI messages to be transmitted.

4. Select the MIDI Filter 1 page. Make sure the Program Change is on for each channel otherwise the microSTATION won't receive that message and the patch file won't work. For some reason, the default is 'off'. It took ages to work it out as the PC messages were only ones not getting through.

Help

I am wrestling with Cubase Essentials 5 and a Microstation.

I can get a Midi track set up, see inmput activity and get sound BUT I cannot set up another track and get a different sound. Whichever track I use the rest of the tracks are assigned the same sound.

It is driving me mental.

Is this straightforward?

Hi

I'm assuming that you are using the patch file from my website.

It ought to be straightforward. I'm using Cubase Essentials 5 and the patch file works on SE too.

Are you using the microSTATION editor as a VST plugin? If so, try using the stand alone version to set the microSTATION up instead.

Do all the voices on each channel change if you just change one channel or do they stay the same?

It may be that the MIDI program change isn't getting through. Double check that they are not filtered out. SEQ - Track Program - MIDI Filter 1 - top line. It's OFF by default!

If that doesn't sort it, you'll need to find out if the problem is with Cubase not sending or the microSTATION not receiving.

I'm running Cubase under Windows XP. I can check that Cubase is sending the PC message by patching the output into MIDI OX via MIDI Yoke. If Cubase is OK, it will be the microSTATION.

Let me know how you get on.

All sorted!!!!!

I get it. I set up a VST (after I bothered to install the SW from the disks that I had slung to one side). All made a bit more sense then.

Thx for your assistance. It was driving me mad.
