Oasys plug-ins questions

As some of you know, I've just taken delivery of my Oasys 88. Whilst I feel familiar with a lot of it (thanks to my M3), the world of plugins is new to me, hence this question.

My Oasys has the following installed and authorised:

EXs1
EXs2
STR-1
LAC-1
MOD-7
EXs3

Is there any golden nugget that you think should be added to the list?

Thanks for your opinions!

Cello -

Recommend you read the resources list stickly thread if you haven't already.

You have all of the Korg plugins that are available. However, there are considerable more resources you might want to consider:

- KORG's extensive free program, combi and effects-preset libraries available once you register your OASYS with korg via www.korguser.net.

Amongst these free offerings are about 400-500 (perhaps more) new programs many of which are must haves. The >750 effects-presets, when installed, become a new preset library selectable from drop down menus in your OASYS. They transform the use of the insert, master and total effects because of the sheer amount of work Korg put into these.

- KARO Sample and Program/Combi Libraries. Acoustic and Electric Pianos, Strings, Yamaha GS1 - a plethora of sample and program libraries that are top notch.

- Karma Lab's 'Karma Oasys (KO)' software for Mac and PC which provided awesome new Karma programming and development tools

- Sharp's 'OASYS ASSAULT' sampel library offering a currently unique new set of fabulous samples and associated programs across flutes, voices and many other instruments.

- Kamra Lab / E2J 'Catalyst' Combi set offering really excellent new combi's.

- On my web site (http://www.knect.ie and scroll down to affiliations and click on the OASYS link) you'll find some 'rough and ready' libraries perhaps of interest for free download:

---- A sample and program set of the Roland VP330 Choral Synthesizer
---- A selection of programs for AL-1, STR-1 and LAC-1
---- A systems exclusive library of more than 71,000 Yamaha FM programs readable by the MOD-7 synthesizer
---- A small library of about 10 CP80 programs based on the OASYS CP80 HD-1 on board sample
---- A small selection of personal MOD-7 programs.

Don't forget to check the download section of Korgforums for OASYS free downloads, most important among them is Dan and Sharp's 'Enigma Flute# the famous Emulator2 program brought back to life in all its glory.

There are many other program sets available some mentioned in the resources list.

Kevin - thanks so much for the comprehensive (and easily understood!) reply; much appreciated.

Whilst I've checked out a lot of your suggestions, there are some new ones to me, so I'll be checking them out.

Good to know I've got at least the right initial Oasys config.

Although I've discovered one issue which might have an obvious solution (although not obvious to me)... The EXs2 library (pianos) shows as authorised on the plug-in page. However, when I go to the banks (Prog/User A 000 onwards) they don't sound. Not sure if I should have a disk for this (I did get a disk with the EXs3 sounds). Seek enlightenment!

This really is a great and helpful reply Kevin - many thanks :D

Edited to add - PS Earlier I emailed Korg UK to register the ownership transfer - don't expect a particularly quick reply however, is this process resonably straightforward, do you know? I do want to access the Korguser.net area.

Hi Cello -

not sure why you you are not seeing the EXs2 pianos - there should be 10-11 programs in U-A.

Might your setup (or the previous owners setup) be wiping over them?

I'm confident they are there on your hard disk. Go to the factory folder and enter it and keep entering till you see the list of programs for U-A. They should be there.

I'd suggest backing up the contents of your OASYS and then loading the factory default banks, then bring back on board your own stuff.

Okay - went into Factory Folder and saw that the ESx2 is not listed - all the others are. That might explain it?

So could that mean that ESx2 was installed and authorised (confirmed by plug-ins page) and then removed but leaving the banks showing the programs but not sounding them?

I'm not sure what is going on there. Note that there is not a separate 'exs2' programs file to be loaded - rather the 7 EXs2 piano programs provided with EXs2 are part of the factory install "preload.pcg"

Can you see a file called preload.pcg?

If you see that in the factory directory, open it and keep opening till you see within the program file bank UA. Open that and you should see the first seven (or eight, can't quite remember the exact no. of supplied programs) are piano programs. They are the EXs2 programs. Only 7 - 8 were ever provided. If you see them you can load them into any program location you like.

Again - I recommend you back up your OASYS and then load the factory defaults so that you get your bearings on where the various program banks lie - if you haven't already done that.

Another thing that comes to mind - have you gone into global settings and told the OASYS to load the samples for EXs2?

Have you checked to see which EXs are set to load in the Global mode Expansion Sample Setup menu command?

Absolutely right Kevin and Dan - EXs2 not checked for loading up.

It is now, trust me!

No apologies necessary - there's a ton of stuff in there!
*I'm* actually the one that's mortified. There's an entry in the Operation Guide troubleshooting section about this, which is helpful enough, but it assumes that the max RAM was 1 GB. This was true early on, but after we updated the software to support 2 GB, I missed editing this part of the manual to match! <sigh>

Hi Dan,

Do you forsee any reduction in price for the OASYS Plug-ins now that the OASYS is discontinued?

I'm sorry, but I can't comment on this kind of question.

Best regards,

I would have thought there was more chance of an Oasys sequencer update
