My touch screen is dead... !!! PLZ HELP

Post by Ricky »

Played the O two days ago and everything was fine.
Yesterday I should have played some more.
But the touch screen was dead in most areas. I was able to switch some pages and make some settings, but absolutely not all of them!
All buttons works (Seq, Enter etc)!
I could play the thing but couldn't touch it!

Luckily I mangaed to get to the save-area (wasn't easy!) and save my progs to HD and USB-drive.

I thought I would try the "Enter + 0"-thing at boot.
For some reason it didn't work at all. Everything was as usual (same progs etc) after booting with "Enter + 0", so it didn't reset anything.

I couldn't calibrate the screen. Top left and bottom right corners were dead!

I tried to re-install the system software (1.3.3a) downloaded from KorgUser.net.
Didn't work.

As a last try I went to test-mode (Exit, 2, Enter, Function), and I was surprised to see the LCD pass the test!!!
It has to be a software failure, but why can't I fix it by reloading the system software???!!!

Later at night I actually made it work again, by using the Test-mode (Exit, 2, Enter, Function).
I was happy and thought the problem was solved!

Right now I've just booted up again, and the same problem occurred again!!!
And this time the test-mode didn't fix it!

Anybody got any ideas for more things to try, or is it time for service?

TIA

Ricky,

Have you tried the trouble shooting section in the Operating guide? It's in the appendix area and has steps on trouble shooting the screen and other things too.

If that doesn't give you any answers then you should call Korg tech support. Their number is 631-390-8737 in the USA. I think that will get to the Fix the fastest.

Thanks for answering.

Yes I did go through the troubleshooting section.
Didn't find any solutions there!

It's strange! Right now - in these seconds - everything is working 100% perfect. No problems at all. I even rebooted the Oasys, and it's fine!

But I really don't like those periodic errors.
When will it happen again? OnStage in front of 10.000 people, being unable to switch sounds??? :-(

I'm from Denmark, and I just mailed the danish distributor, and hope they can help me. It's late night here, so I have to wait until tomorrow.

Ricky,

If the problem is intermittent it could point to a hardware problem.

I had a similar (but not the same) problem with my touchscreen. Problem was that the screen was blank, but the touch part actually still worked (if I pressed a part of the screen I could hear the beep, although I didn't know what I was highlighting).

I found that if I moved the screen position, the screen came on....and then went off again depending on what the screen angle was.

When I looked inside the Oasys, there was a fine yellow wire which made the screen flicker if it was moved. I took it to the repair shop and had the joint re-made. There are other different colour wires which attach the touchscreen to the Oasys video card.

The guy doing the repair remarked that (in his opinion) the jointing method for the touchscreen wires wasn't ideal and he would have expected a higher spec. for such an expensive machine.

Having said that it's been fine ever since.

So might be worth taking to the repair shop to see if any of the video screen or associated wiring is defective.

Good luck,

Tony.

PS I took the opportunity to have 5 defective button switches replaced, so if you have any that aren't behaving it's a good time to get them sorted.

And no, he couldn't get the function button to work.....

Thank you very much for your answer TonyGen.

It could certainly be a defect wire. I will have that examined.
It came to mind, I've just started to transport the Oasys to and from my band. So the defect wire may have come loose during transport, and of course I didn't notice that when it just lived in my studio.

Still, it's a bit strange.
Last night it worked. I turned it off, and today it didn't work when I turned it on.
After it had been on for about 30 minutes, everything is working again!!!

But I believe in the hardware/wire explanation.

And yeah, I've got 2-3 buttons which are a little "tired".

Thanx again.

Best Regards

Ricky
