kevin, thanx for sharing you experience - nothing beats good live music! 8)
peter, sorry to hear about your rhodes experience. but i still believe a real piano would do you some good.
the video was very cool - loved how hancock moved from accoustic to synth and back. that's a great example for melting both worlds together! :D

I now own the O that Herbie used on his Australian tour a few years back. I'm never washing those keys! :D

^ wow! 8)

So you can maybe answer an earlier question... factory sounds or his own?

just wanted to ask exactly the same question

When I sell my instruments I always put them back to the factory settings. Even when I have to send one for repair. Therefore I would be surprised if OASYS came with Herbie's sounds.

Yes, nothing notable there. I don't know, but I suspect that Herbie tweaked a few combis maybe, but did little in-depth programming. But who cares - he can sure play!

Herbie has a data load that he uses which includes many custom programmed Combis and user-samples. Jack Hotop spent a few days at Herbie's programming things up for him, so he certainly has his own data. I'm sure they "unload" their data after using a loaner/rental.

But beyond the samples he uses (vocals/vocal phrases from Spectrasonics Vocal Planet, for example), much of his work is custom Combis.

Regards,

Jerry

Thanks for the info Jerry - certainly makes sense! Proves yet again that you have to make your instrument your own; which is exactly the platform Korg provides (IMHO).

It's pretty cool having Korg's own sound designers at your disposal for your programming needs, performing house calls...but I guess that's one of the perks of being Herbie Hancock! :P

...

I've also seen the "Imagination" Tour live, and I don't know...although Herbie is always (and STILL, at 70 years old!!) as amazing as ever as a soloist/pianist, I thought especially the brass sounds they used were...dare I say it? Obtrusive and cheesy, especially during the numbers from the 70's, like "Actual Proof". :?

And yes, the second keyboard player is Greg Phillinganes indeed...another legendary keyboard figure himself, isn't he?

Absolutely. Thought it was him, when I saw them both in a short report on TV. Da**.... I really missed a great concert. Thank you for the information MrDuke.
