Newbie transpose and pitch bend question

Post by rbalaa »

Hi All,

Is there an easy method to transpose the whole keyboard (as there is a button on the pa series) ?

Second question, can I adjust the pitch bend range on an instrument while in sequencing mode ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

im not sure what you mean by transpose the whole keyboard. you mean switch octaves? as far as i know, the m3 does not have this. you will need an external midi controller that does have this function (i have an akai mpk49)

anyway, there is also a transpose feature in the track parameter screen under the 'pitch' tab. also can play with the bend range on that same screen also

There is key transpose function in Global mode (Basic page), but this is really global parameter and you cannot manage it easily in live situation like transpose buttons allow on Pa. Also if you transpose M3 for example one semitone, then it sounds one semitone off but issues still proper MIDI (you play C, it sounds C#, but issues MIDI C - it is important if you want use M3 as controlling device).

It should be possible to program timbre or even combi to get transposed certain predefined amount pressing SW1/2 but this lets you just switch between transposed and not transposed mode, not to transpose up/down in steps.

If you need quick transposing ability then better use Pa (or any other midi kb that has this feature) as a control keyboard and M3 as sound module..

Yes, SEQ P3 : Track param - Bend range in lower part of the screen.

to transpose to whole keyboard go page select P1 on any mode (seq, program, combi)
Then the controllers tab. you will see SW1 with a > beside it. touch the arrow and in the drop down menu select octave down.

touch the > beside the SW2 and select octave up.

So now when you press the SW1 the whole keyboard will octave down and SW2 with octave up.

This works on any mode. Is SEQ mode I set these buttons and save as a template. song. so every time I start a new SEQ I don't have to do this every time.

Changing the pitch bend range in SEQ is possible as well I do that a lot. I can have different pitch bend ranging for each channel. Here how

hit page select - track param or the number 3. go to the pitch tab. Now one tab is pitch 1-8 and another tab is 9-16. Depending on the channel or sound you select the appropriate tab. at the bottom you will see Bend Range. Default is 2+ you can make it wider pitch bend by increasing the number or decrease it to 0 or even to negative number which gives you the opposite effect. You push to the right will pitch down and push to the left will pitch up.

Hope this helps :)

And on a related subject; let's say you've sequenced an entire song and find that your singer can't sing in the key you've recorded. Excluding the drums of course, is there an easy way to transpose several tracks at one time to sccomodate the singer? Thanks.
