Kaoss Pad + brand-new 2GB SD card = ERR

Hello,
I just got a Kaoss Pad 3 a few days ago and it's pretty fantastic. However, there is one extremely annoying problem that is a serious blow to the machine's usability - for whatever reason, it doesn't recognize any SD cards I put in it. I've tried four different SD cards, all ranging from 512 MB to 2GB in size, but not a single one of them works. Whenever I press Shift and one of the buttons 1 - 3, I only get the "ERR" message. Yes, three of the cards have been used elsewhere, but I only tried them because I couldn't get the brand-new, literally fresh out of the box 2GB SD card to work any better.
Of course, I've tried to look for answers online. Several people, even here on this very forum, have had the exact same problem but no one has really answered them. A German forum suggested reformatting the card on the computer - that definitely didn't work. Does anyone happen to know what could be done?
Thanks a lot!

I haven't seen what everyone else with this problem has suggested so this is my blind guess.
1. Format the card with the KP3. The PC format process is not as compatible with the KORG units.
2. Make sure it is a plain SD Card, meaning don't use the SDHC (or any other) format.

Yeah, but this exactly is the problem. I can't even get into the formatting menu, since whenever I push Shift + 1 I just get the error message, even with the 100% fresh card that's never been used in any other device. All my cards are plain old SD cards with a maximum of 2 GB space. I remember reading that someone even had this very same problem with the card he got
bundled with the KP3 from Thomann.

Okay, got the KP3 from where?
Take it back and get another one.
If you can, snag the floor model and at least try the format option and see if you get an error with one of your SD Cards while you're at the store.
The card's protection should be off- meh, I'm not even sure if this could have an impact since you said you tried new cards and new cards are set to a writable position when you open the package.

Got it used, unfortunately. I was an idiot and didn't ask if the thing still has warranty left, I'll need to ask the seller. At least he seemed like a nice enough guy and told me to contact him if I need to ask him anything about the machine.
And yep, the protection is off

Pardon me if this is a totally stupid suggestion but....
When I first hot the KP I pushed the card in and it did nothing, but then I noticed the card wasn't 'all the way' in so I pushed it a little further and it snapped into place.
A few other pieces have SD Cards so KORG seems to actually go in further than other drives. The card almost disappears in the KP so maybe it's not in fully....
just another guess...

Hehe, it's a good guess but I do know how to use SD cards

I don't think I would even get the "Err" if the card wasn't in fully, I'd just get the "Card" message instead.

That's alright, thanks anyway!
I tried doing a factory reset, but it didn't help at all, either. Does anyone have any other ideas? I sent an email to the distributor (Korg's site asked to contact them instead of Korg themselves in support questions) here in my country, but since it's been weekend and today is our Independence Day, I'll have to wait until tomorrow at least.

In the K Pro, you have to turn the dial clockwise to select the TYPE OF FILE you are trying to pull from the card. If you are trying to load/read a program data file and there isn't one, you'll get the "err" message.
Try to read the card, but when you get to that first screen, it's asking you for the type of file you want to load. Turn the dial...Also, on the KP you have to push the knob in to take a value as there is no enter/yes button.
I'm sure that's what the problem is.
Other than that, make sure your data is in the right format...16bit 44100 and I think the KP3 might support 4800.

Griffin I think you are misunderstanding what he telling you.
He has no card functions because the card isn't being recognized.
This means he can not format it or try to load anything because you can't move it from the Err screen.
What he's dealing with is incompatible cards, basically he has tried several cards but they are still wrong spec.
I have several cards that will not work in the KP3 or M50 that work fine elsewhere.
The Korg readers seem to be more tightly confined to there specs.
Two cards that work for me are the 2GB PNY Optima and the 2GB Panasonic SD Class 4.
Just watch the specs on the cards you use.

Read the manual, Im not sure, but I think there is written that you can use only 1G card.

The KP3 manual says:
NOTE: The KP3 supports SD cards with a power supply voltage of 2.7–3.6V and capacities of 16MB–2 GB, and SD card with ID.

Thanks for the replies, all. I've now ordered a new 1 GB SD card from Thomann, that one will hopefully work. And if it doesn't, I'll see if I can find either of the cards Talon4 mentioned.
If even those don't work, well, I think I'm gonna have to have a word with the seller
