Hi all just got my M50-88 and im not sure which speakers/monitors to buy. I was looking at the Yamaha Stagepas.....would i need two of these or just one?.....I may be wrong here but would one speaker=mono and two=stereo.....i was thinking whether the stereo samples would be heard properly through only one speaker. What about any of these. I dont have a mixer or amp so i understand i will need 'active' speakers.

Also the piano sounds sound pretty tinny compared to my 10 year old Korg digital piano....any thoughts? I'm currently running the synth through my brothers guitar amp. Hope anyone can help....Cheers guys.

The M50, like the M3 and OASYS, benefits a lot from stereo reproduction - particularly with Karma automation.
I would say you need two speakers and yes, active is the way to go. I guess your selected speakers would be fine. I use Alesis actives and the difference is amazing - more so on combis but still, worth getting.
Your guitar amp is built to handle frequencies from a guitar not a keyboard so not a good way to judge relative quality of sound.

As always: it depends.
What do you want to use the speakers for? In your studio? In the rehearsal room? In a bar or a club?
Stereo is great if you are in a good listening position, i.e. inbetween the speakers. Not so great if you are in a concert venue to one side. Most concerts are mixed with little or no panning. That said, even a mono source sounds better from two speakers than from one. We have two ears, after all.
If you just want speakers for use at home or studio the Stagepas is overkill. A pair of powered (=active) studio monitors would be just as good, if not better. You'll certainly get better definition. Try a pair of KRK's or Genelecs or even M-Audio or Alesis.
For the rehearsal room the stagepas would be ok, but there is often some sort of PA in the rehearsal room that you can use instead. For anything more than a smallish bar the Yamaha's are too small.

+1
Home studio: get a pair of active nearfield monitors (Focal Solo, Genelec, Adam, KRK, RCF MYTHO, Yamaha HS, Event)
PA: get a pair of active fullrange speakers (Mackie SRM, RCF ART, EV, QSC, JBL, Yamaha Stagepas)
