I think the main reason for the SSD: it's quiter and it's not so sensitive when you take the Kronos with you on tour...

But the difference is, that was on a computer!
This is a synthesizer workstation, musical instrument.

you can't compare apples and a wooden plank.
yes, thats right... but what I want to say is: diskstreaming is also possible on the O even if it's no SSD installed, on a 2GB O, the extra memory could be used as streaming buffer.

Maybe Oasys owners should just refer to Kronos as Oasys 2 from now on.

Ok, I understand. But still not sure if that would be possible, because the O has a lot to do and HD's spinning like a merry-go-round all day would shorten its life.
Furthermore, its not JUST streaming, you have to take into account a lot of other things too.
But ask Korg R&D for the blueprints :) Then we can all see what we can do with our O's....

I was under the impression that all the samples get loaded into RAM at start-up and the hard disk goes to sleep until we do something on the 'disk' page? can someone confirm?

I don't think thats a real problem at all for the HDD... it's more a problem if you transport your Oasys not right, the Kronos is the better deal if you want to use O sound on stage!!

There is still one point to be mentioned here: The Oasys and the Kronos are completly software instruments with a midi controller attached to it - The only hardware difference between them are the audio interface, the USB port and the higher resolution tochscreen. So the new features are mostly solved by software, wich also could run perfectly on the O itself. I'm sure while they developed the Kronos OS they are using the O for betatesting and changed the hardware features later!

The question is not... if Korg could make the PCG / PRG / COMBI of the Kronos compatible with Oasys... The question is - why releasing modified PCG if you can use the entire software itself on the Oasys, making the Kronos and Oasys 100% compatible to each other....

Korg should think about that, that is the way to go... Korg have to bring the Oasys to the same software level of the Kronos and make all sides happy!!

greetings

Oh I wish that could be done and would be true, then Korg would lose money, because some Oasys users would not buy the Kronos....

Here there is a Oasys user that doesn´t go to buy a Kronos.
But I´ll buy expansions for Oasys.

If Korg intentionally did this then I'm canceling my Kronos order.

For people who don't want to take their expensive and heavy Oasys on tour.. the Kronos is the perfect live machine... Just look it at this way: If both machines share the same OS you could use your O safe at home, transfer your sets to the light weight Kronos and take it with you on tour if you need the O sounds.... I would buy one next year if both share the same OS.... It's easy.. no OS update on the O - no Kronos for me in the future...

The truth is only that Korg has treated us like retards. This isn't good from them.

Yes. Probably they did.
Surely most of the OS is the same.

As Mr. Malkovich says in Nescafe ads: "Make and educated guess."

+1
Agreed on everything, as usual, fellow.

Yes, this is the way it works.

Samples are loaded into 1Gb (or 2Gb if you expanded it) And the HD is used as storage only.
