Hold note (background strings)

Post by rbalaa »

Hi All,

I'm sure this must be a simple answer but I couldn't find it. I have some nice sounds that I want to play while a strings note plays continuously in the background.

Can someone please assist. Thanks in advance.

import the prog/combi into seq, record the one string note, and use loop mode on the string track

or if you want you can use karma to hold that string in any mode

I tried the Karma, but I couldn't find one that just holds a note. I can only find ones that have an effect, like ex: arpeggio ...

you can try with drum pattern
YAMAHA W5 + TRITON proX (exb MOSS / exb PCM01 / exb PCM05 / exb SCSI / 64Mo) + M3-73 No.000187 v2.0 (exb Radias v2.0 / exb M256) + DOEPFER LMK2+
AKAI DPS16 + MINDPRINT Envoice + ART Dual MP + RODE NT1000
BEHRINGER DDX3216 + 4 MACKIE SRM350 + 2 MACKIE SWA1501 (+ PEAVEY KB300 )
...

Drum pattern might work. But I'd like it run by a KARMA module that will just hold it, that way I can change the note on the fly.

I'm a triton user, but the combis set-up is similar enough that this SHOULD be a viable solution for you.

In combi mode, set up strings and "nice sounds" to your taste (FX etc.).

In key range put strings up in the extreme range of the board (last octave) then tune down (-12 or -24) to get into desired tone/pitch range. "Nice" sounds in mid/low range.

In MIDI filter page UN-CHECK sustain pedal for all but strings.

---------------------

You may have to adjust your playing somewhat, but using the sustain pedal - on this patch only - will let you hold the strings as you play "under" their range.

This solution has the advantage of running in simpler combi mode, without switching to sequencer mode or wrestling with KARMA. If you are running denser (KARMA/Arp) note streams, just be aware that running out of polyphony can cause an abrupt stop of the string sound (subj. of previous posts here).
