Live Dubstep Wobble

Post by phillwilson »

Feel free to throw in ideas and comments, this is an idea in progress...

Im really interested in A challenge I have been set is to try my hand at a live looped Dubstep set.. this is at an open mic I go to every week where I randomly improvise stuff with no thought or content in advance (appart from patch design) so all drum beats are empty all sequences are un programmed… I just mix it all up live using a mix of audio and midi loops.

Anyway… I have been listening to a lot of Dupstep as I am not from that background and from what I hear , the genre is charracterised my a paticualr beat type (that’s taken care of) ..And very evolving melodic figures based around the BASS part. Any other pointers?

Anyways..I had this idea for a live patch…not made this yet… just a theory…

1. Can I take a pre exsisting bass (I think a distorted one such as preset JAMI BS) and muck around with the control I have over it…

2. a large element of the wobble bass is that ability to wobble the filter in time… Im clocking from Midi so I imagine if I patch the oscilator to AMP and sync it… then patch that to te contol wheel so I can flick between different sub devisions of the clock….. does this make sense?

3.It sounds like there is a lot filtering going on too to emphasise phrases … to emulate this live I think I could patch filter to velocity… then the harder I hit the more it will sharpen the filter… again any thougths??

Also just thinking as I write… maybe I could patch both Synced Amp ocsilation and Filter both to velocity… this might let me playthis sound live using my midi gutar as a controller (which sends velocity)

Hmm interesting.

What other elements can I break out and put under some control???

thanks
