KRONOS RAM

Post by gorkymate »

Would ther be a chance to expand RAM memory for user samples like in Oasys to 2Gb?

Not with OS v1.0, but it may be a future possibility.

Just like the OASYS, the OS has to be re-configured to use the additional RAM.

I do think the Kronos Motherboard will accept more RAM.

Is loading (user) samples possible during sound changing or is must to load them on bootup?

Looking at some photos (for example, for 61 version) when you see the
bottom of the instrument, I have seen no slot for any expansion.

considering that the RAM is a really not clear point, it would interesting to know:

-How much RAM is really available (I read the specs 1GB)
-How much remains available if the default load all the EXS (seem to understand that they are 273MB, not so much !)

greetings to all

2Gb are installed, and 1Gb is free for Sampling or User Samples.

When you do load all EXs (but the EXs-2), which represents something like 11 Gb of sounds, you will still have 275 Mb free, on the 1Gb.

At anytime you can choose to not load an EXs and then have more free memory for your own samples.

it's not like a usual workstation, since there's a computer motherboard inside. I think it will be like the oasys. The Top Panel goes up entirely so you have access to the motherboard and the ram slots.

The downside would be not being able to upgrade RAM yourself (or perhaps at the risk of losing guaratee), even if the OS would be upgraded to allow that.

it's a user level upgrade, no problem, and no guarantee loss

I don't think so because the Kronos has no removable slot covers. The only way to install bigger RAM would be to open the case. No manufacturer would allow the user to open the case and still honor the warranty.
