Help from experts between the Oasys and Kronos...

Hey all...new to this forum, but not new to Korg. I have been thinking about preordering a Kronos (73)...but I have always wanted an Oasys. I have worked with the Oasys a tiny bit (friend has an 88 ), but not enough to really know. I am trying to figure out if it is worth waiting until May for the Kronos, or if I find a good deal on an good condition Oasys if that is a better option...

As a reference, I just sold my M50 and M3-88, and prior I owned a Triton ProX, Trinity, Prophecy, M1, etc... Again, not new to them, but I wanted to get opinions on the 2 mentioned...

I guess my concerns are if the Oasys is going to be hard to get support on soon, and also if the Kronos is going to be appreciably better sounding (certainly Korg would make you think that based on their promotion, but I don't necessarily buy into it).

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks!

Hi,

I´m not an expert but even when I love my O I would go for a Kronos if I were you.

Kronos is Oasys plus the piano engines.
Kronos sounds like Oasys (look at the threads over in the Kronos section where Dan from Korg posted about this)
Kronos is a current model with warranty and spare parts - Oasys is discontinued even softwarewise.

The only thing to consider buying a O in my eyes is, if its price is going down so much that it does´t matter or/and if you like the superior design. But at last I would go for the new machine.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi,

As an OASYS user I would give the same advice to you as above.

However, I think the best to try Kronos in person before you decide. Make sure you like the keyboard feel, the whole design etc.

You won't have problems with The Sound.

Best regards,
Akos

Appreciate it. My only thought is this is not my primary board... In fact, the vast majority of what I use it for is the chord triggers on the pads (I use a Roland PK5A to trigger chords while I am playing my main board with my hands). I was fine with the M3-88...just really hated the build. I got the M50-61 but it only has 4 pads, and the keys are chinsy. I tend to buy high end, thus wanting the Kronos. But, I can find loaded Oasys for less money, ready to go, vs. waiting 3 months.

Money really isn't an object, but with it not being my main board I don't know if I should wait...

Oh, plus I love the look of the Oasys...

Honestly what I think I will do is buy the Oasys...use it until the Kronos is stocked..check it out, and if I prefer that sell the Oasys for a loss and buy the Kronos. I am a tad obsessive with this stuff. :)

Thanks!

Well, if time is your primary issue there's no alternative to buying an Oasys now.

But beside that I agree to the advice given above. I'd wait, lay my hands on the Kronos, hear its sonic quality and feel the keys, buttons, sliders. See how I like the touch screen pads compared to hardware ones etc. Once the Kronos is out and it's actually as good as promoted Oasys prices will go down even further ... so it will be the sensible way to wait 2-3 more months. :!:
