Just wondered if this is possible ? Would love to have Jaybs sounds bringing my old X3 back into life. I've tried editing sysex file with hex editor to change family id - file transfers to synth but is all messed up. Any ideas ? Thanks Stewart

well this should be possible. All the Ai2 series are compatible between each other. I hope to transfer X3 soundsets to my 03r/w via data card. Thats what the korg technician told me anyway :)

How are you sending the sysex file to the X5?

Sysex commands often need delays to give the engine time to process them. A program like MIDI-OX lets you set the delays and monitor the progress and results. You need to check for a midi result event that indicates success for each sysex command.

The X5d soundset is in either .x5 or .syx format. I tried adjusting the .syx format header using hex editor to correct X3 family. X3 does accept the .syx file but it is nonsense. Thought there was a synergy between the AI2 synths :) Just being lazy as I can always copy each patch parameter from XEdit individually but.................any ideas ?

Sorry XML, should have mentioned that I'm sending sysex file from Sonar to X3. Works with all other specific X3 files but not X5D one.

You need to monitor the midi events that the keyboard sends in response to the sysex file you are sending to it. The responses will tell you which sysex commands aren't working with an error message instead of a success message.

MIDI-OX has good tools for formatting and monitoring sysex commands and responses.
