Hi all,
In combi mode and using ext/ext2, I often send midi out to external synths. For karma generated patterns, that works fine.
The problem I'm having is when using the keyboard to play external gear in Combi mode. I only want to play from C-5 to G-9, but C-1 to G-9 is sent on the global midi channel and I can't seem to put it in a zone or turn it off. Because I can't turn it off, and I can't limit the zone, I can't prevent one of my synths to ignore the midi data from C-1 to C-5. That's because it auto detects the midi channel via incoming data:
"The Red Square will extract the MIDI transmit channel number from the note or controller data that was received and set itself to receive on that channel. The channel number is stored in non-volatile memory."
Any ideas?
limit keyzone on global midi channel, or turn it off?

limit keyzone on global midi channel, or turn it off?

I use one of these http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm it works well and is fully programable.

Hi,
I´m not in front of my O, so I have to check but as far as I remember the O is sending always also on the global channel and you cannot limitate it. I also tried with karma but could not match it.
So the problem might be solved, if you chose another channel/set your expander to another channel? Seems that it is switched to a kind of omni mode, but it should be possible to switch to another mode?
If this is not possible you can limit the keyzone on your expander which would solve the problem?
Otherwise you will need a midi processor.

LOL, I have the midi solutions quadra thru and merger, but not the events processor.steve m wrote:I use one of these http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm it works well and is fully programable.
Looking at the docs, I'm not sure how I'd use it to turn off the global midi channel or limit its keyzone, any hints please? Seems they have some Windows software to program it, would I need to use that in this case?
I'm trying to control a mono analogue rack that can't limit its midi note range itself and can't seem to ignore the O's global midi channel.

Ah,
just saw the manual on the web ... well; does the RS detect the first midi channel that he receives and ignores then other channels? That would make sense with storing the midi channel in non volatile memory.
In this case why don´t set the O´s Global midi channel to f.e. 5 on the Global page and then the expander is storing the 5. Afterwards you turn the Global midi channel back to 1 oder another channel and in this case you should be able to limit the keyrange in the combi´s keyboard zone when the progam is set to 5 and ext. However the O is always sending midi data on the global channel.
But if the RS is always detecting/like omni mode then you need the processor
