My OASYS has been repaired!

I don't know if this would be a new topic, or if i was supposed to find the original topic I made and reply to it, so it may have to be moved.

I was asked though when I found out what the problem was I would let everyone know.

I originally posted about my KORG OASYS 88 locking up at the load screen in the same spot everytime, about a third of the way loading. I tried formatting I replaced clock battery tried swapping out ram, and other than that I didn't know what to do.

I took it to the nearest authorized repair center, and after two months of working on it they decided it had a bad sektor on the hard drive. They replaced my hard drive with a 120GB one and they say all works fine and is ready to be picked up!

That's good to hear. I hope for your wallet's sake it was still under warranty [-o<

It was out of warranty, and it's going to cost me $175.04. He is only charging me 1 hour of labor, and the cost of the hard drive.

Wow

That's seriously good support to be honest - when you wrote about Korg having it for two months I thought, 'Wouldn't like to see that invoice!'.

By the way, was it not agony to live without your O for that long? Don't think I could cope with living without mine for such a time

Yes, it's good support at a nice price - really good to hear that. (And you got a bigger HD!)

PS. Although 2 months is toooo much, what did it take so long? Maybe that's also the reason of the friendly price?

For me 2 months without the O would be a real misfortune.

Sometimes when I get a really odd repair job, like the one mentioned, you have to reallllyyyyy dig around to find the issue. especially when a software issue isnt fixed when reformatted. And with that on top of other repairs in the shop, its not hard to make it stay for 2 months! General rule of thumb is always save taking out something like the harddrive and putting it in another receptacle for last, since its the least likely.

might i also note.. i think its sad that most people who come into the shop hand me 100s of dollars just to do a system reset they couldve done themselfs in five minutes
Note to the weary, if you play spanish music and find these floppy disc that give you the greatest mariachi sounds from random guys.
chances are your keyboards gonna crash.

Good to hear and of course you'll use the repair guy again.

Goes without saying that there is a moral to this story that Korg might want to take heed of

Congratulations Pianomanjess - deligthed for you. And a whopping 120GB on board too - very nice.

Has the OASYS OS been reinstalled, or must you do this yourself when you get it back?

Kevin.

Oh, it was very hard to wait for 2 months. I wanted to call him like everyday, of course, thats not very reasonable, after all, he is the one billing you, you don't want to make him feel like he's rushed! I did call about every other week for an update.

He said the latest Os had been reloaded, and it's ready to be picked up. Now if I could get off work to make the 2 hour drive to go get it!

There was a couple days we were all snowed in (kind of weird for Oklahoma). I didn't have the 4 cd set of original OS so he had to call and get them from KORG and they forgot to send them, so he had to call again (although I had previously tried to get them from KORG and was told they are discontinued and not available). And he was about 2-3 weeks backed up before I brought my O in. and waiting for the disks to arrive, and later waiting for the new HD to arrive. And all the trouble shooting to find where the problem was.

Pianomanjess, hope you have got your Oasys back. Do you know if this HD is a regular IDE HD or is any specific HD made by KORG?

Could you provide who is the manufacturer of the HD and how should this be replaced?

I'm facing a similar issue and this is the screen that I'm getting when loading:

Thanks anyway and this is also hapenning some of the times, and not all times this screen appears.

When my O was locking up, the loading bar just stopped moving, so this image is unfamiliar. However I do not know if any HD will work, or if a specific one is required. I believe I read somewhere that the hard drives that KORG ships out has the OS already loaded. So I do not know if one could do it themself. I believe it is just a 2.5 inch standard laptop hard drive which I believe is located above the cd drive. If I can find that link I will post it. I believe it was at karma labs forum.
