Naming External Sounds
Hi again: I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this situation. In the SEQ section of the O, on the MIDI mixer page, it is possible to assign external sounds (or both) under a sub-tab. What I'm wondering is: is it possible to rename the sound on say, MIDI channel 2, which coming from a Z1 or Triton?
Many thanks to any ideas you have about this as well as suggestions made in the past.

Name the track assigned to an external source the name of the patch/program
from the Z1 or Triton.
I would name the track like this … Z1 - Elec. Bass or Triton - Elec.Bass
so you know what machine is the sound source at a quick glance
This procedure is covered on p.392 of the Parameter Guide manual

from the Z1 or Triton.

Thanks. I'm not sure where the "rename" command is to do that, but I'll check the manual. On the drop down list. Also, you mentioned in a previous post that you recommended naming each pattern in RRPR. I still haven't found where you're able to do that. I don't think it's on the drop down list.
Sorry. I'm a slower learner. You have a wealth of information. I appreciate your sharing it.
Thanks,
Barry

To name a pattern…
In Sequencer mode, the bottom row of tabs contains a tab labeled
Pattern/RPPR. Press it to open it. You should now see 3 tabs underneath the grid where all patterns are listed and named on the left side… the middle tab is labeled " Pattern Name". Press the 'T' button for each pattern you'd like to name , hit clear and type in your new name and hit OK which saves the name.
It's all covered on p. 396 of the Oasys Parameter Guide.
Do yo have this manual ? If not , I'd look into getting one.

Hi again: I DO have the manual(s)--all 1000 pages of the Parameters manual and the 200 page "Start Here" manual as well. They are well written for the most part but I have found gaps in their explanations. Often, they are tiresome to search through for specific information, however, I am slowly making my way through them.
One last question (for now) and this comes from the manual: when initializing a new song, in order to get the pop up box, the manual advises you hit "enter" and 1. The manual claims you MUST number the song and set a length if you want. Is this procedure necessary? I'm more apt to remember the working title of a song than its number. I have in fact NOT numbered a song, but named it and got it to save to the HD. Does that work for you?
Thanks,
Barry

Barry,
I'd recommend getting a searchable PDF manual.

Link has a number of useful docs and manuals.
Download and store on computer and task it with finding the right page.

Actually, you are not numbering the song. You are simply choosing the song number that you wish to initialize. Even if you access the "Initialize Song" dialog from within that same song, it's like an extra "are you sure?". There are (from memory) 100 or more songs in the Sequence memory at all times. They're all empty on power-up, but the number slots are there, anyway.
I don't think it's "necessary" to use the Initialize function. I never do. I simply choose the next song (if necessary) and start recording. Or, most commonly, from a Combi or Program that I'm playing, I hit Enter + Record and I'm automatically in Seq mode, ready to record. Check that out!

What works for me is when someone new asks questions that indicates
they have read the manual by pointing to a page number or even section dealing with whatever issue they don't understand. That encourages anyone
inclined to answer to do just that… help someone over a stumbling block after showing the initiative to get to the bottom of any question that arises.
As a long time reader of various forum sites , whenever individuals ask questions that give me the suspicion that someone has not consulted the manual, my response might seem to be scolding in tone. If you perceived it that way , sorry. At least now, everyone knows you do have a manual(s)
