I agree with Billysynth and say the Data Wheel coming off "is" a hardware problem! I guess we are supposed to glue it back on or something??

Using a cheap Data Wheel is what Martin claims is one of those "cost/benefit tradeoffs" that would cost an additional $300 to have replaced??

When the need arises to service the Kronos (open it up) the knobs and sliders may have to be removed, including the data wheel! A glued data wheel could bring larger problems.

jahrome, did you popped out the data wheel intentionally or just using/turning it ?

It wasn't intentionally. I was doing some sample editing by turning it quickly. Have you ever used an MPC? If so, you will understand fully what I mean.

Using one finger, if I turn too fast, and apply pressure to one part of the data wheel, the opposite end will rise and it comes right off. So after do this a couple times, it is always on my mind. So now, I mostly use the value slider first...and then using the data wheel for finer edits.


*PS - Just looked at my Kronos serial #. Its in the Top 30! I registered my Kronos his evening and received an additional 12 months of warranty from Korg.

If your retailer is local, maybe contact them to see if they have a 61 with a solid data wheel. You may have gotten a keyboard with a faulty one.

I use to own the Triton Studio. Built-wise, it was a better keyboard. I never had issues with the Triton's data wheel which is a different type than Kronos. The Triton's wheel was flat with a slot to put your finger in. Great for editing. Kronos is more like a knob that you turn with two or three fingers.

Each dealer in the area received 1 or 2 boards. They are not widely available yet so I just can't swap it out. Maybe I just have bad luck. My last purchase was NI's Maschine. The Top part of the Unit (made out of Metal) is glued to the base of the unit (made out of plastic). The bonding (glue) that holds them together started losing its adhesiveness. So the buttons no longer protrude through the top part of the unit...they are more flushed. Didn't send it back...too much hassle at the time.

Hi there jahrome, not sure about anyone else but I am very anxiously waiting your review regarding PC/MAC integration of the KRONOS, whenever you get a chance, thanking you in advance..

So they passed on the option to place pads, for fear of the sticky pad syndrome and gave us data wheels that fall off.
I'm just lovin it more and more!

It sounds like the data wheel itself may be flimsy. I see a 3rd party opportunity!

no, I just spoke with Korg Italy and they said it's a software issue that will be solved with an upgrade.

The upgrade will be free of charge.

So, a software fix can solve a mechanical/hardware problem - amazing!!!

Yup, but the new Korg may never, ever release it. Once the product is selling, supporting it isn't a high priority anymore.

You know at 51, i wanted to join a band again and take the Kronos 88 on the road. I hope this thing doesnt start falling to pieces with moving it around and car travel, and set ups etc etc.

Actually, this might be a big issue, moving this thing around a lot. If one finger can dislodge the rotar wheel whats a whole hand going to do lol

IMHO Korg should immediately seek for an alternative data wheel, change the production asap and offer a free data wheel replacement for those keyboards that have already been shipped.

The Editor hasn't been released. As of now, I am just running audio from my Mac to Kronos for sampling.
