Using SW1 to trigger a sample?

Hello,

I currently have a combi where a sound effect is triggered using one of the notes on the keyboard, via the note being the only one in the range of a specific program which contains that sample. It works perfectly, however it would be better for me if I could trigger the sample in another way and leave that key available to actually be played as part of the music.

Is it possible to trigger a sample using SW1? Another way I could think would be if the SW1 could trigger a specific note-on event, and put the sample on a program whose range is outside the keyboard's range.

Hopefully someone can help with this :-)

I'm fairly certain it's not possible for the assignable switches to generate note-on events.

I'm assuming the sample is part of a combi.

I'm wondering why you don't just move the sample-trigger key out of the way of your playing range.

It's a fairly simple thing to move it left or right on the keyboard using that exclusive range feature you already have a handle on - you can always then tune it up or down by 2 octaves to bring it back into line from a tuning standpoint.

Also, you don't have to sample the raw data to the middle of the keyboard. This sounds like a case of you're playing it (your sample) exactly where it was originally mapped. You should be able to move the data to another key without affecting tuning at all.

I would always put my samples to the far right or left of the keyboard; this worked great for the eerie noise between songs; we would come off a thrashing part and I would just slam the last few keys with my fingers. Some bass-y noise would drop, the lights go off, and the sample starts. I had nothing assigned to those keys except the sample itself.

As for triggering on a switch, you would still have to put the sample on a program and then bind that to a key, but you could make the switch turn 'on' that program's volume (through an effect).
