hi everyone,

am more than happy to finally find a forum for korg trinity.
I have 2 floppy emulators, you may ask why 2 cause I have a korg
Trinity and a korg Triton pro.
I have tried to use it on the Triton, did all the formatting and so on
but whenever use the stick on the triton it said unformatted, well
tried several times to formatted on the triton but a massage always
came out saying cannot format disk.
so I got a little discourage and never tried it on the Trinity.

Can any one help me please, I don't what to do.
if I try on the Trinity would it work, and can some one
tell me whats the problem with the Triton pro .

Hello Ric,
The "floppy emulator" that you refer to, is this a USB device, a SCSI device,
or a software application for writing files to a 3.5 floppy?

Does your Triton and Trinity not have working 3.5" FD drives?

Which model of Triton do you have?

As the Trinity doesn't have a USB, and only has SCSI if outfitted with the SCSI-TRI board. I'm puzzled by your question.

sorry for replying sooo late.
the floppy emulator is the one where
by a flash/travel drive is use instead of the
normal 3.5" disc when the flash/travel drive
is formatted it can carry 100 floppys in one
f/t drive instead of carring 100 floopy discs.

I have a korg triton Pro and a normal trinity.
by the way I tried the emulator on the trinity
and didn't work properly, every time I had to
power on and off to change disc.

Not more than a mere year has passed by, so your reply is fine - considering that the Trinity is closing on the second decade of its existence. You probably haven't missed anything from the latest news...

I think it will be difficult to help without knowing the exact model of your emulator. A detailed description would also help (did you format the USB drive on a PC? Do you have any software for the emulator? Steps and messages when you read/write/format, etc.?).

There are several models of these emulators on the market and they are not created equal - but there are some that should work without a problem. More than one on this forum have been successful with such a quest before.

If you don't know anything about your emulator, maybe a couple of close-up picures when taken out of the synth would help (labels on the PCB, etc.).

(Correct me if i'm wrong) but its my understanding that many (Not all) musical instruments that have floppy drives, their drives are formatted different than a regular computer 3.5 floppy drive ..I think its the #2 and #10 pins that are reversed...I have a friend of mine that had a DSS-1 and the drive died ..he got an old floppy from a computer carcass and sat there with a multi-meter and a soldering gun until he got it to work ..he ended up soldering 2 pins together and flipping another two if I remember correctly ..Ill have to ask him exactly what they were.. because the drive now works perfectly...as a matter o fact its way faster than the original drive that died..

I own a 61 key Trinity plus and what I want to do is somehow figure out how to literally remove the drive and somehow figure out how to solder a cable into the trinity and have the ability to simply plug it into my usb hub and have it show up (I know its far more complicated than that) , but that's just the basic idea of the end product I have in mind ...so Im researching right now and scouring the schematics in preparation for a little experimental exploratory surgery

Also for those that do successfully install a USB floppy emulator its also my understanding that you flash drive has to be formatted in fat32 or even possibly Fat16 and it has to be partitioned into 1.44mb partitions This is probably why a keyboard continues to say "Disk not formatted" ...becasue the operating systems on these keyboards were not designed to see drives bigger than a 1.44mb floppy without the SCSI interface installed..or at least not via the floppy drive channel ...

Do that with a floppy emulator!

i personally do not recommend ipcas.

If you are the few lucky one and it works on the first try then you are really lucky. I for a few years already have ordered an emulator from those guys and it never worked. Not only i have waited 3 weeks to receive the emulator and i never had assistance on their part to help me making it work on my Korg.

I tried with 2 models : one "no name" from eBay China, and one "GOTEK" which has jumpers, but none worked because none provided disk change notification : the Trnity doesn't refresh diskette information and continuous ask to change floppy when needed.

So I abandonned that idea, and put the original floppy back.

I would prefer use SCSI system, for example a good old Zip drive or hard disk.

- be 100% compatible with the Trinity ?

SD card can be any, fat16 or fat32.
Only 1,44MB floppy emulated, IBM and CP-M supported.

Does it emulate floppy eject signal ?
The 2 floppy emulators I've bought in eBay don't.

And 16 floppy is not enough for me : I have 20-30 diskettes.

FYI : you need 7 floppies to dump the flash rom.
